Can anybody recommend a solution for scanning larger (i.e. 120) color negatives? I have looked at services such as Scancafe, but for the cost I would rather find someway to do it on my own.

Thanks!

I just got a Canon 8800 scanner. It's selling now for around $169.00. It does a decent job.

If you have the time and are a DIY type, many scanners now have trays for holding negatives that include sizes up to 120.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can get scanners that only hold one or two strips or scanners that hold 4 or more strips. Of course, the more strips it holds, the easier it is to do larger scanning jobs.

I have the Epson Perfection v600 which is going for $179 at Amazon. I've done 35mm negatives just fine and plan on doing some of my grandfathers larger negatives this winter.

I use an older Epson 4870 and it's got an 8x10 area for scanning transparencies. I still shoot 120 and just scan them in rather than making prints. It's got trays to fit 120 film, 35 film and 35 mounted slides. The trays work great for cut film, and scanning uncut film is even easier because you just slip it under the lid and pull it through as you need to.

Thanks for all the info.

I am looking to try and do this myself. If it takes some time, no big deal I want to get these memories into a digital format mainly for archiving purposes.

Epson is usually the best-recommended line of flatbed scanners. If you're scanning photos, look for something with Digital ICE, which uses infrared to help remove scratches and dust.

I still use an old Perfection 1200S for flatbed scanning and am very happy with it... I will definitely buy another Epson when it's time to get a new scanner. (This one is only for scanning documents and prints.)
