Yesterday I finally purchased SCAL because I've heard about the lawsuit and PC making it so it isn't compatable anymore. Can anyone tell me what I need to know about the basics of SCAL? I haven't updated my Cricut in more than a year. Is this going to cause a problem? I'm afraid if I update it now that it will no longer work with SCAL. Does anyone know for sure? I really hope I didn't just waste my money on something that isn't going to work any longer.

And, what's an SVG file?

I would say that the videos here:

http://www.craftedge.com/tutorials/tutorials.php

will teach you more than you ever wanted to know. They go over everything twice and even if you truly are computer illiterate you should be able to pick everything up. If you aren't, then you might find some of the info a little redundant after they go over it the second time.

An .SVG file is a file type (much like a photo can be a .JPG) that can be read by your Cricut to know what to cut. The SVG file can be made by you or downloaded from a friend or website.

I have no info about the pending lawsuit and what it may impact. I just bought SCAL two days ago and just discovered today that there is a lawsuit pending!

Start watching those videos (do them in order) and you will be an expert in no time!

I second the idea of watching video tutorials. I didn't know anyone with SCAL and had never seen it before, I was even new to the Cricut, and I was able to figure out what I needed.

I used these tutorials:

I'm not sure about updating your Cricut. I hadn't even thought of that so I'm glad you mentioned it.

I got both the trial version of CDS and SCAL before I purchased and SCAL seemed much easier to use and versitile than CDS, even beyond the fact that you can use outside and free images and fonts.
