I decided that mothers day would be my last purchased card. I paid nearly $5 and I still had to write my own verse inside. I had all the supplies for making that same card at home It. I purchased Becky Higgins' new book about card making, and I made 3 cards this past week, 2 birthday and one get well. They took very little time and cost nothing, because I use scraps. My biggest problem was envelopes. I had some odd ones laying around that were left over from a stationery set. I thought of purchasing the envelope templet. I also think I may get the scoring blade for the 12" Friskers cutter.

Tell us of your experiences in card making.

Chessie-

My friends and I used to make envelopes out of magazine pages (really bright, busy ones) using other envelopes taken apart as the templates. Of course this was back in high school, but they were really fun to get in the mail. We had to adhere labels on them so you could read the address. I haven't made many cards, but I see the handmade ones and think that I could do them myself, I sure have plenty of supplies!

Good Luck,
Candi

We must be on the same wave! I was thinking the same thing but with a slightly different twist.
I was at a crop and this lady made envelope pockets for her scrap memory stuff and then would make a perfect slice in the page protector. She put the flyer or what ever in the pocket and slide it throught the protective sleeve. It was so kewl! you could look at the map of pamphlet with out hurting the scrap page! She also put slits in the protector and then slip half of a program out side of it so you could flip through the program. I want to try this too!
So I want to figure out how to make some mini envelopes!

You can buy envelops to fit most cards at office supply stores. There is a quarter fold envelop (8.5 x 11 folded into quarters). These are often used when making computer cards. Would these work?

Coluzzle makes an envelope template that is very easy to use. I believe it has three sizes of envelopes on the template with cards that would fit on the inside. I use the small one a lot on layouts. I also know that wwww.twopeasinabucket.com has some envelope templates for sale in their Creative Garden section. They are downloadable patterns.

Hope that helps someone!

I am just as into card making as scrapbooking. It's a non-brainer for me as I use the exact same tools for both!

As far as envelopes are concerned, here are some sites that offer free templates. As PamCo88 said, you can also buy the perfect sized envelopes, called invitation envelopes, at Staples or Office Depot for pennies a piece. These envelopes work with my "standard" card size which is created by cutting an 8 1/2 x 11" page in half and then folding it in half.

I make cards much better than I make scrapbook pages. I got a magazine once with paper crafts that was mainly cards. I used it for inspiration and have since created lots of other designs on my own. I buy cheap envelopes at AC Moore and then usually make my cards to fit the envelopes I have. If it's going to be a card in a gift I just hand to someone, I don't worry about the card at all. I usually give gifts in bags since I can't wrap anyway, so I punch a hole in the top left corner of the card and attach it to the bag with curling ribbon.

Hi - I make my own cards too here in the UK.

Cards are very expensive and I received a Hand Made one myself a year or so ago and just thought how lovely it was and that was the beginning of my hobby. In fact it was Card Making that led me to Scrapbooking!!

Thanks for the links for the template DVCajun - that will be really useful and I have saved them for future use.

:) :) :)

Do any of you post pictures of the cards you've made anywhere? I would love to see :D

Some of mine are in the 2Peas Peanut Gallery. Unfortunately, my favorites aren't in there! But if you want to check them out, my user name on the gallery board is "Tink2." ;)

Hi DVCajun

Thanks for letting me look - I spent a lovely half hour looking at your layouts and cards and have to say that they are all excellent - more inspiration for me, thank you :)

I think my fave was the Dirtbike one? I love the way you had the tags with the details and price on .

Thanks for sharing

DVCajun, Thanks for the templet site. I really like the variety of envelopes that could also give way to an idea for a card.

Now which came first.... the envelope or the card? lol
