I DID have this choice. Earlier this year, I won such a trip (for 4) through a McDonalds salad promotion (except we were given 4 day park tickets instead of 5). Of course I chose Orlando and took my trip in July (my choice), and I had been to WDW in 2005.

Disney has a department just for contest winners. They handle all the travel arrangements and have access to hotel information that travel agents don't have (such as availability for specific rooms).

We were allowed to choose ANY room on site, as long as it wasn't conciege level or had a kitchen. We chose the Polynesian (Tuvalu, Magic Kingdom view, third floor, to view the 4th of July fireworks). And we were allowed to extend the length of the vacation (the extra days at our expense). And we were allowed to have more people in our travelling party (the extra people at our own expense). The park tickets that we were given as part of the prize were labelled "Complimentary" and could NOT be added on to in any way.

And yes, we will have to pay taxes on the value of the trip. The trip was valued at about $4400, so the trip will add $1000 to my tax bill this April. However, I will gladly pay the extra $1000 for the 4 nights at the Poly and airfare for 4 and 4 day park hoppers for 4 that we were given.

WOW!! That's an awesome story! Walk away from the DIS for 24 hours and you never know what you miss!! Congrats!!!

DisneyWORLD! I'm not a huge fan of flying...will do it...but the shorter the better...and non-stop at all costs.

Flying from NY to FL...about 2.5 hours.
Flying from NY to I presume LA....and then drive to DL...no thanks.

Now that I've been to both (DL probably a dozen times), I easily prefer WDW.
But if I had never been to DL, I'd definitely want to go at least once. After all, it's Walt's only park.

Dh won a trip through his work (Home Depot) and we could choose between the Disney Cruise or WDW. We did WDW because it was his first time ever to Disney and had ressies at the Beach Club. When we checked in, we were upgraded to Conceirge Level!!! Airfare and park hopper tix were also included. We could upgrade but we would have to pay the difference. We went with the plan they offered and had a wonderful time.

You should go with what YOU and your family want, talk to the travel agent and make sure to get ALL the information!!

And have a GREAT time!!

We *did* win (from Kellogg's), but it was specifically for WDW :cool1: If we'd had a choice it would have still been WDW. BTDT at DL and it just doesn't hold the same appeal to me.

I HAVE won a trip to WDW! It was from Petco pet supply stores. They opened a new one by us, and had a sweepstakes for a trip to San Diego for 4 people. I filled out the form, and WON! BUT....when the hotel could not accomodate us in our desired time, Petco let me change it to Disney! PLUS, because we are a family of 5, they paid for all 5 of us to go(It was originally only for 4 people)! It was airfare from NY, 5 nights at All Star Movies, hopper plus passes, AND $1000 cash! We were THRILLED! Way better than San Diego!

PamNC and I went to DL last year. It was my first time and she had gone before when she lived in Orange CO. I thought it was great but I would always go to WDW over DL. That being said I think these things ar better in DL:

Fantasyland.
MK Fireworks.
Food in parks.

WDW has better CMs hands down.
