I have seen a few reports on these boards about WDW switching to dry, crumbly, wheat buns for their burgers and hot dogs...is this true? Is it resort wide or just in certain places? I have also seen reports of Ohana's doing away with their cheesy potatoes toward the end of Feb...anyone been in the last week willing to comment? I realize they may be trying to offer us healthier choices but we should at least be able to make the decision for ourselves...I have a trip planned at the beginning of Sept...I do not know about everyone else, but part of vacation to me is eating the exact kind of foods they seem to be removing from the menu...please tell me it isn't so...anyone?

According to the posts...the bun thing appears to be true at many of the counter service locations. I remember seeing posts about Casey's and Pecos Bill. The potatoes may still be in the rumor category.

Ohana did update its menu in February (according to allearsnet.com), but potatoes are still on the menu.

I love wheat buns, and the potatoes are just normal cheesy potatoes that I can make very easily at home.

I'm sorry, but I like the changes.

Have you tried the buns at WDW? I too like wheat buns, but not when they are dry and crumbly...and for the potatoes...yes, I can make them at home also....but it is something I expect when I go to Ohana...kind of like the bread pudding...it is just not the same without it.

I, for one, think we should have a choice...eating healthy or splurging on vacation (not forced to eat one way or the other)...I eat healthy most of the year and when on vacation I WANT the option...it is America, after all...the land of choice.

I am one of a party of 4 adult planning a trip in Sept; 3 of these members (other than myself) are now playing with the idea of going somewhere else (they are not the WDW lover that I am), especially if they continue forcing these healthy foods on us (replacing our less healthy options)...we will not have a car to eat off site and we want to at least have food available that is appetizing to us ...I sure hope Disney re-thinks this and at least offers the "choice" rather than forcing the hand...I want to go to WDW!

Not sure what people are talking about with dry and crumbly wheat buns. I tried them at more than one place and couldn't really see a big difference in taste or quality. They didn't crumble at all. I'm all for not doing the healthy thing when eating at Disney but the buns really weren't such a big deal.

We were there a little over a month ago and the wheat hamburger buns were at the CS place in between POTC and Splash Mountain. Sorry, but in years and years of going to WDW, I have yet to figure out the name of the place! Half the time, I can't even get in, because doors are locked, but people appear to be eating meals they'd purchased inside outside.

We also had these buns at Casey's.

Anyway, we eat wheat or whole-grain buns and bread at home (I'm actually partial to flax and oatmeal bread), but the buns we had at WDW last month were soooooo dry and crumbly. The burger was really inedible. As soon as you put ketchup or anything "wet" on it, it pretty much disappeared into the burger. After two bites, I had no choice but to eat it with a fork and knife.

The bun for the hot dogs for both DH & I broke after taking our first bites. After a couple bites with the ketchup and mustard, it turned into more crumbly mush.

The buns were bad. But the burgers they put into the bun were horrid. I know WDW has had good burger years and bad burger years ... we're in the bad burger trend right now.

On a positive note, some of the CS is better now, IMO, with the whole-grain breads. We got a pannini at Pinocchio's Village Haus on whole-grain bread, and it really held up well and made the sandwich feel much more like a "meal." I've had this before pre-whole-grain bread, and it's much more filling on the newer whole-grain bread.

We go to WDW and look forward to enjoying some junk, too. I think we're taking hot dogs and CS burgers off the list for now.

I don't like that Disney is making the decision of what we should eat for us. It makes no sense. The time that I am not at Disney World, I eat very healthy, and am on a very strict diet so that when we go to Disney World, I can take a diet break.

I'm not sure about the potatoes...

Hopefully, Disney will see the error in their ways and find a new vendor or recipe for the wheat buns. At Pecos Bills, the bun is often cracked and broken when the burger is handed to the guest. They do not hold up well and my top bun broke into 5 pieces after just a few bites.

The buns at Beaches & Cream are not wheat buns and still taste good and hold up well.

HAs any one taken the time to write a quick note to them about the buns?
So they know people don't like them?
they can't fix it if they don't know its a problem::yes::

Yes, I wrote with my concern yesterday...maybe if there are enough people doing the same they will at the very least offer a choice...PlutoLuvr, the pannini at PVH sounds delicious...I was thinking about trying PVH this trip anyway for the Figaro Fries...now I can make it a meal with a pannini (if we end up going, I guess) :thumbsup2 okay...let's all ban together to at least get choice...send in those emails everyone (we need the changes way before Sept or I may not get to go to WDW :scared1: ...not because I do not want to but I will be out-voted!!

There were wheat buns at all the CS places we ate at including Pecos Bills. I ate a chicken wrap there (PB) and the wrap was also wheat. The potatoes are still at Ohanas. I doubt they are going anywhere soon. The rumors on the boards about Ohanas menu changes seem to change every week. Right before our trip they said that the potatoes would be gone by Feb. We ate there on 2/11 and there were only minor changes.

About a month after I wrote and email to WDW, I got a phone call from a representative about the wheat buns. He said that technically they are still white bread buns but have a wheat additive? I told him that I had heard that they are very dry and do not compliment the burgers or hot dogs well. He told me that I did have the option of a some sort of wheat free bread that they have on hand for people with certain allergies ( i forget the name he said but he did give me a brand name) and that it was offered everywhere, you just had to ask. Hope this helps someone.

I had a hot dog from the cart outside of casey's at EMH on feb 17th. Perhaps that it was 2 in the morning and I was starving, but the whole wheat bun was good. Of course that's what I buy when im at home too. Walt Disney World cares about my colon :lovestruc :rotfl:
Now, all they need to do is switch to whole wheat pasta

No offense, but you should try the rolls yourself. I had several of these new rolls when I was at WDW last month and I honestly didn't notice a difference in taste or texture, only a slight difference in appearance.

No offense taken. After I talked to the man I did go on our trip to Disney World and did try the bread for myself. I agreed that at certain places, the rolls were more dry that what I had had in the past, but they weren't horrible. They didn't have a much different taste, just drier, but you could see the wheat present in them. My kids didn't mind them, and that was what I was worried about. I also noticed that the pizza crust at Pizza Planet seemed to have wheat in it. I thought it was good in the pizza though.

This is exactly what we are worried about...dry buns/bread gives me the SEVERE hiccups...and for hours on end! Were they crumbly? There have been several reports of the buns now falling into pieces as you are trying to eat your sandwich...it is not that I have a problem with wheat buns, it is the dry crumbly part that I have a problem with...the buns were fine before...no hiccups...I am now afraid I will be in agony if I try eat one:scared1:
