Is it my eyes playing tricks on me or is there chatter that Ohana's changed their menu? I loved going there. I definately made a point of not eating much during the day so i could eat heartily. I loved the turkey and shrimp and the appetizers and who could forget the pineapple.

What has it changed to and should I find a new favorite at WDW?

They changed it back in Sept. much to our disappointment. Just when I think "Ok, lets try the new 'Ohana" but then I read a bad review on here. Mostly people saying they feel rushed. I don't know why they felt the need to change it but we probably won't be back. We enjoyed the bread, rice, grilled shrimp, shrimp wontons, green beans, and the pineapple of the past menu. Too much of a change for us. Though we still love the salad, turkey and steak its just not reason enough to go. I think we need to do something to let Disney Dining and the Poly know that there are some of us out here that don't like the change. Before the change we went to 'Ohana on every trip. Maybe pick a certain date and everyone send Disney a letter saying how we miss the old menu on that date. Couldn't hurt.

I was sceptical, but enjoyed our January meal at O'Hana's. I think they started with a salad with a yummy dressing; and shrimp as appetizers. For the main course, they had the beef, pork and turkey. They had a side dish of scalloped potatoes that was awesome.

I missed the light pineapple as dessert, but loved the bread pudding with ice cream that they offered instead.

I really like the new menu, maybe even better than the previous one. We did not feel rushed at all when we visited in November. I really liked the salad and my kids loved the shrimp appetizer. I am a huge fan of bread pudding so I thought the dessert was fantastic. I told the server that my kids did not like bread pudding, so she brought them bowls of plain ice cream at no extra charge. :goodvibes

We went to 'Ohana in October, and really liked it. The new menu was great for us- I honestly don't understand all the upset and disappointment about it :confused3 . Restaurants change menu items all the time- keeps them from getting stale, IMO. Just because it's a Disney restaurant, the menu should never be updated? Whatever.

As for people feeling rushed, I can see how some feel that way- the food comes fast and furious at 'Ohana. But, I think some folks, especially those who haven't been there before, miss the point of the place. It's supposed to be a family style, "put everything on the table and then help yourself" place. Those used to the "serve appetizer, remove appetizer, serve entree, remove entree, serve dessert, remove dessert" type of service see all these bowls and dishes on the table at once and think they have to gobble it all down right away. It's okay to go at your own pace, folks!

Just my .02.

We went there last week and had a great time. We definately were not rushed, it took 1.5 hours to finish. We like the new menu and love the bread pudding dessert. We think it is much better than the pineapple.

I've only been to Ohana 3 times.

Last May and again in September, when they still had the bread. I don't mind the menu change much, but I was very disappointed when we went in January to find the bread was gone.

It's funny - There was a repeat of Disney Fairytale Weddings on the Food Network this weekend, and they showed Ohana's as a great place for a family dinner, and made a point to mention how the bread has been made fresh there and served daily for over 30 years. :(

We're huge Ohana fans, and I have to tell you I'll still go.But I do miss the pineapple and caramel, the shrimp wontons, and the bread. The one nice addition is that the shrimp now comes in bowls and you can just go to town on it. I have to agree about feeling rushed, it was kinda rude the way they are now pushing everything on you.

I have to agree with a few statements made about feeling rushed. We felt that way too on our last time there. I think it has to do with the DDP.

I felt that the changes to the menu did not detract from the experience and I actually liked the shrimp and desert change and really loved the potato change.

We really like the new menu, since they got rid of the things we didn't like, with the exception of the wontons. I hated the green beans, rice, and fake caramel, and love the new stir fried veggies, potatoes, and bread pudding. Neither of us like shrimp, so the addition of sausage was a great thing. I think the food quality has taken a turn for the better since the menu change.

We were there in October and we loved the new menu! The only thing that everyone disliked but me was the stir fried veggies, but they never eat that kind of stuff anyway. The scalloped potatoes were to die for! Very thinly sliced and very creamy and tender. We couldn't get enough of the bread pudding and can't wait to go back! As far as feeling rushed, I think we did have a little bit of that feeling, but that was only because they were brining food on top of food. The waitperson and their assistant never hinted for us to leave, or anything like that. I really think you should try the new menu. I was skeptical after reading these boards, but went anyway and I'm glad we did. Enjoy, take your time, and if you feel rushed don't hesitate to tell your server. You are a paying customer and it would be rude to not let you enjoy your meal. I totally agree with a previous poster in that I just don't understand the big deal about the menu change.

We're leaning on going back. We'll see how our trip shapes up and we'll work it into our schedule. We keep going, it's going to be a family tradition.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

to the op, give it a try. keep an open mind. most people loved the old ohanas and enjoy the new menu just as much.

I wouldn't say 'most people' but many people have found it acceptable or better. It seems that most who like the changes disliked the shrimp, which was really the heart and sould of that 'Ohana was built on, IMO. It was the one stand alone entree item that wasn't just normal fare. Now you still get shrimp, not as good but still acceptable and without that spicy, messy, juicy delight all you have is pork, steak and turkey...Good but the pork is better at California Grill and Artist Point. The steak is better at Jiko, Shula's, FF (and others) and the the turkey is ... Well, I can't think of other turkey at WDW but we used to put the peanut sauce on it and dang if they haven't changed that for the worse as well!

But I agree that you should try it and form your own opinion, I just wouldn't fret over not getting it unless you have kids that love the hula hoop contests and coconut races. In that case hang the food, the experience will still be worth it.
