Saw this news about Blue Lagoon Ferry

Yeah, it was on the RCCL boards first over on Cruise Critic - it seems to have been mostly if not all RCCL passengers on that ferry.

DCL cancelled their Blue Lagoon excursions on Tuesday (before this happened later that day) because of the sea conditions.

I don't know what DCL is going to do for the future, but RCCL has cancelled all of their Blue Lagoon excursions for the next couple of weeks at least, and ones for later sailings are either showing as "Sold Out" or have been taken down completely. Anyone who has something booked for Blue Lagoon might keep an eye on it and see if it disappears and/or you get an email about cancellation.

Just saw that the Bahaman government has suspended that ferry service. So unless and until Blue Lagoon works something out with another provider, I would expect them to be cancelled.

Wow - there is no other way to get there!

We did this excursion with DCL many, many years ago. Our ferry got hit by a wave in the front of the vessel. We were on the lower level. The water was more than ankle deep as it ran very fast from the front and off the back. I remember grabbing my son by the shirt as I was afraid he would be swept off the back. It was choppy and a bit frightening. Just seeing this brought back that memory. For us, it turned out ok, but unfortunately someone lost their life. Very, very sad. My prayers are with the family

The news footage is unbelievable. A woman from the boat who wound up in the water filmed the boat listing and sinking from the water. So many people didn't get off the boat. I would feel so much safer in the water than on the boat when it went under.

I wouldn't go on any of those small boats in Nassau if they were the last mode of transportation. They always looked barely sea worthy and over crowded. It's been like that for years.

We've done a lot of DCL cruises, but none to Nassau. We have our first one next summer. I had planned on going to Blue Lagoon, but after reading comments I'm thinking it may be better to avoid tenders. Any excursions you recommend in Nassau? I know a lot of people say stay on the ship, but I'd prefer getting off.

The most we have done there in the past few years is just the port entry area where the little touristy shops are. Anywhere else is just uncomfortable for us.

I’ve got this booked on the Wish Dec 22nd - 26th. We will most certainly cancel now. Does anyone have any recommendations for a beach day to replace the blue lagoon?

The Margaritaville resort offers day passes and has a pool area and a beach. The colonial Hilton is re-opening, but I don’t think as a Hilton property. They used to have day passes for their nice beach, but I’m not sure if that’s returning or not. Both of these are walking distance from the cruise terminal.

This is why you always, always, always listen to any safety briefing and know where lifejackets/emergency equipment is. Everyone always thinks "it won't happen to me" until it does. So many people zone out on this type of stuff, and then when something happens and panic sets in they have no idea what to do.

Not saying anyone here did anything wrong, just pointing that out. Something as innocuous as a cruise excursion turned tragic-even the woman in the video kept saying "I never thought I'd see this" or something like that. So sorry to hear this, especially the woman who died.
