DH was off so we decided to take DD to CEC. While DD was up in the climbing thing DH and I sat at a table.

We noticed this little girl about 3 with a woman that may or may not have been her mom. Anyway, the little girl was not having a good time so she definitely stood out.

I was kind of watching her and noticed she had an electronic ankle bracelet on :confused3 . I could only imagine that maybe she's under the care of Family Services and having a visit with her mom and this is how it's monitored. What else could it be?

i don't know of any social service agency that uses electronic monitoriing-if we had a child that needed monitoring when on a visitation it would be a supervised one with a social worker or other person designated by the court.

weird-i saw a dateline that showed an 8 or 9 year old with an ankle monitoring device but it was because she had been arrested for manslaghter and was on house arrest.

maybe the child had some type of disability that requires the devise to track her down in case she wanders off (saw something on one of those extreem makeover shows about something similar but it was like a bracelet the child could'nt pull off-sounded an alarm if they went past a certain point in the yard and had a gps chip as well).

Well, I hate to say it, but those have been talked about on the Family Board as a way not to lose your kids at WDW. I kid you not. Maybe the lady didnt want to lose her kid at CEC.

I agree, where can I get those bracelets. My kids are 14 and 16...

:rotfl2: Don't worry, when they realize they have no money, they will be back.... :thumbsup2

I'm not totally familiar with these ankle bracelets, but could it be possible that the child was autistic? I know my friends son was quite the runner when he was three and they had their hands full keeping him from running away in public. Maybe this was a way to track her if the worst case scenario happened and she got away from them. I hope it was something like this, because otherwise it seems a little freaky to me (and I was one of those awful people who used tethers on the twins when I had to take them out alone when the were two).

another thing it could have been was a magnetic seizure bracelet. I had a kid at camp that wore one of those on his ankle and if he had a seizure you would take it and and then you needed to move it across his chest to activate a divice in his chest that stopped the seizure. they kinda looked like those monitering bracelets...

Chuck E Cheese uses those for kids under 5 to assure that they don't run out of the store. They started doing this a couple of months ago. It sets off an alarm at the door. I think it's a great idea.

hummm, I never heard of them and we were there today and I have 1 under 5. :confused3

our CEC's always had someone stationed at the door to prevent this and to check the stamps...have they stopped doing this?? If there is a person at the door - why are the anklets necessary? :confused3

Some student I have had in the past used a monitoring device for seizures. There was an electromagnetic thing that would monitor elevated heart rate/blood flood which would alert the teacher and such about a seizure that was to come.

Really? That's interesting. Must be regional because we don't have it at either of ours. They do the hand stamp method, with an attendant at the stand, which seems to be effective since they check and match up every single person that is leaving.

Yes, I think it was likely a seizure anklet..........I've had a student with it too.

I have an "angel alert" I bought for DS4 before we went to Disney this last time........didn't need it there, though, but I use it more at our zoo...........anyway, he just wears it around his neck and it beeps if he goes too far.

He's a runner, and completely silent and swift!

wow - that would be great at CEC...we were there for a party last Saturday and the 15 or 16 year old kid that let us out didn't even bother to "check" if those were my kids I was taking.

I would complain to corporate if they aren't doing their job at your location. You could use www.planetfeedback.com to shoot off an email.
