Savor the Savanna: Worth the money?

Has anyone done the Savor the Savanna:Evening Safari Experience at AK? My son loves the safari and the elephants (we've done Caring for Giants). It sounds like it would be interesting, but pricey. I was wondering if it is worth the money- any advice or experience to pass along? Thanks!

Definitely yes! I’ve been twice and both times were fantastic. We saw a lot more animal activity than on the Safari, and having our meal and drinks out in the Boma was fun. It was so relaxing sitting there watching the animals as the sun set.

I hope you go and have a great time!

I would say YES! We did it twice in one trip and each was slightly different. Beautiful night first time and pouring rain the second. Both totally enjoyable. The vehicle is smaller than "ride vehicle". I think the max number of people is 16 per truck. The driver was informative, and pulled off regular path where a Animal Specialist joined us and answered questions. Food was served in a "Tiffin", was Tapas style basically. Time at Boma Shelter was amazing! Our next trip is late summer this year and it is on our Must Do list again.

Hey there- could you share more about your tour in the rain? Ours is very soon and may be particularly wet (or maybe not, but it looks possible), but just wanted to hear- were there still a lot of animals out?

Hello, Rain had little affect on animals. They were still out and liking the rain it seemed. If I recall correctly, the elephants were very vocal. Now, the rain did soak the seats of the Truck which is open on sides. The group still had a great time. The Rain really made the savanna glisten.

We have gone x3 and loved it each time. Once was in the pouring rain and we still had a great time. We were all given ponchos, and the boma kept us dry for dinner and drinks.

Great, thanks so much!!

We did it when it was first introduced and loved it!! Fantastic experience. There were only one other couple with me & my husband so it was very personalized. The food and drinks provided were excellent!

Anyone who has done it, would you recommend a 4pm or 515pm start when sunset is at 6pm? Just wondering how much sunset would effect the tour.....

Anyone know how long the tour is? Is the food provided enough for a meal, or just a heavy snack?

From my initial research, it seems to be about a 2 hour tour and the food is a heavy snack kind of meal with beer and wine available. We are light eaters so this kind of food is a meal to us. Maybe someone who has done this already could weigh in on how full they were after eating.
I just booked this for my hubby and I. Can't wait.

The tour was 2 hours. Plenty of time to see the animals and enjoy the Boma.

We thought the food was enough for us to eat for dinner. We ate a heavier lunch, so for us it was perfect.

We really enjoyed the offerings and the African beer.

I’m convinced! I booked it for our upcoming trip! I think it will be perfect. I’m the Disney person. My future husband not so much. This seems like an amazing experience that we will both enjoy! Thanks everyone!

That was my thinking as well. My hubby isn't a ride person really, so it's food and experiences like this that give him that warm fuzzy Disney feeling that keeps him coming back with me. 😉

We did the Wild Africa Trek a few years ago which ended with a tour on a truck through the savannah and then lunch/snacks (no alcohol) at the boma. We didn't have time for that this upcoming trip and I thought that the Savor the Savannah tour sounded similar to the end part of WAT. Can't wait to see what it's like, especially in the evening - we're doing the 6:15 pm time.
