Hi - my family of 8 is visiting for 5 days, with the dining plan. Can I choose to pay out of pocket for kids meals at Table Service restaurants, to save TS credits to use at other meal times? (I'm 99% sure I can do this with QS meals too right?)

Which plan do you have?

If the regular DDP then the child ts credits are only redeemable for child meals. No point in saving them since adults cannot use them

QS credits are pooled and can be used for either child or regular meals

It is only the DXDP that has pooled TS credits

Thanks for this. We will pay cash for the kids meals at QS, so we have more of those to use for adult meals.

The quick service credits for kids are different than the adults too. You can only use kids credits for kids meals

They wouldn’t let me niece use an adult credit for a kids meal at all star movies last month. She had one adult credit left and got a kids meal and had to pay out of pocket. Unless the cashier didn’t know what she was talking about

an adult needs to buy the meal. if a 9 and under is in line then probably not.

It's possible that the cashier was new. We travel the same time every year and notice that a lot of cast members are "earning their ears" or "in training" based on their name tags, especially this time of the year.

When using the dining plans, quick service credits are grouped together.

CM either didn't know how to do it or thought your niece didn't know what they were doing. Using an adult credit to "buy" a kid's meal is a HUGE waste of money. That credit is worth about $21. The CM probably thought they were saving your niece from making a mistake.

Again, shouldn't make any difference. The QS credits are not separated, so even if a kid is the one in line and "buying," they should be able to buy an adult meal.

I know that and you know that but the CM may not understand what you are trying to do and may be "trained" to say you can only get a kid's meal with a kid's credit.

I have gone enough times to know that using a kids QS credit as an adult credit is the way to get the most value out of the plan. And, they are not going to let a kid get an "adult" beverage if they are in line ordering-so the best way is to let an adult order the meal if you want the best value - like getting a beer, mimosa, or other adult drink.

My niece was the adult . We were surprised that she couldn’t use it. The cashier might have been confused. I thought it would have been okay. It wasn’t a major deal just surprising

yes that is surprising since the credits are pooled. was it by chance a kids table service credit?

I’m not sure now. She had 2 adults and 2 kids on her plan. I’m not sure now who had a credit left

This is not true. The QS credits are not separated. You CAN use kid's credits to purchase an adult meal.

Technically they are separated, though many if not most CMs will allow it. According to the Disney web site if there is a child's menu, then it must be purchased with a child's credit.

By "not separated" we mean that when you look at your receipt, all it gives is a total number of QS credits remaining. It does not separate them out into adult/kid like it does with the TS credits on the regular DDP. The same is true for DxDDP; the receipt only shows total number of credits left.

I do remember someone saying that when the CM scans the MB, they can see who is on the reservation...how many adults and how many kids, but I've never seen a report of seeing which credits have been used/left.

Yes, the PDFs all do state that kids' must purchase a kid's meal where available. One of these days, Disney will probably enforce this "rule," but in reality, they never have. They last time we used any dining plan was 2007 and we purchased adult QS meals with almost all our kids' credits.
