Saving VMK strategies

Good thoughts you guys. I'm so on board with the flats too.

The Disney Jobs website lists WDPRO west-coast openings in NoHO and Glendale. I'm assuming they're at GC3, but I'm not sure how the mail would work there. (Interestingly, VMK's department jobs still list Virtual Worlds as part of their domain, so maybe there is something else up their sleeves?)

Since it looks like they're split between the two locations, maybe sticking with NoHo would be best? Anyone know more about the Glendale location?

We're movin' now! :woohoo:

Web pages people. When people are searching the web for information on VMK. Closing. They can find you web page.

I have been going around VMK takes pics of what everyone is saying.

I am working on an idea.

Post your stories your VMK pics of VMK you never know who might find it. Remember no bashing. Tell the stories ask for help have a link to the petition.

Addressed for snail mail.

I went to the little girls site who has SMA. When I saw her I could not but want to help and seeing her VMK character I saw her in VMK being that princess.

My goal for today:

E-mail all of the Disney podcasters. See if they'll help get the word out to their listeners for more petition signatures, and maybe some letters. It's time to step this up a little.

I'll compile a list of e-mail addresses and post them here later today.

Really excellent idea, redshoe. :thumbsup2:

Lets focus on the real letters as much as possible, though; I honestly don't think e-petitions are going to have all that much impact, and I really worry about them turning into more of a distraction than anything else. They're so easy to sign over and over and over if you want that most companies just don't take any notice of them. I mean, how many times has 'Yavn' signed the Save VMK petition now? One real letter is going to mean more than hundreds of petition signatures. Even sending an email is better than signing a petition; at least someone somewhere has to click on it, find out what its about and send a canned reply.

My goal for today posting the news on french boards related to theme parks and telling them how disney are crushing dreams once again, so the news is getting outside the american websites because I think that it needs to get out since that it is a decision from WDIG.

Here's a list of unaffiliated Disney podcasts that we can contact and ask to spread the word. This should keep us busy for a bit...did I miss any, Aengus? :)

The problem with contacting corporate run media is that Disney controls a lot of this media already.

Most grassroots movements of late have been via the internet, blogs in particular, but not exclusively. If any of you have blogs reference this every day and have the link to savevmk.com in the post. If you don't have a blog you can start a one for free at https://www.blogger.com/start. Every day or more often if possible create a post with a letter, stories of found friendships, pictures and especially use the community angle and the fact that this allows parents separated from their kids to be able to interact with them when not able to see them personally, how this allows kids with disablities to interact as if they were one of the gang etc referencing savevmk.com. Use VMK, Virtual Magic Kingdom, Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom, Disney Internet Group in your posts

This will help with search engines, Google, Technorat et al. The trick is to have everyone referencing the same link, although Google and other search engines have altered their algorhythms to prevent Google bombing it still works for some things.

Remember to be always be cordial and appreciative of Disney's VMK in your posts, if we want Disney to believe they have created a community of on-line friendships we can't have that ruined by crude insulting posts.

Another thing to make note of is the fact that VMK encompassed MK while Pirates on line is strictly for pirte lovers, toon town for those so inclined. I don't go to WDW to ride PotC over and over again(although I do) I go for the full experience as Aengus pointed this is a way for those of us unable to get to the parks to experience the parks.

Fark is also a good place to get noticed.

hope this helps somewhat, if needed I can probably set up a few blogs on my web site for those interested

My husband wants to know what role this company has in all of this. Wondering if the possibility that the contract is up and they are trying to hold disney hostage. Have no idea. From what I understand disney owns the images but Sulake owns the engine it runs on? I just wish we knew the truth.

I am not sure where I stand just the whole thing stinks and too many kids are crying.

From http://www.disneysonlineworlds.com/index.php/Sulake:
"Sulake (suləki) is a multi-million dollar multimedia company based in Helsinki, Finland. It was founded by Sampo Karjalainen and Aapo Kyrölä in 2000. Sulake's main focus is virtual worlds, casual multiplayer games and social networking. The corporation's CEO is Timo Soininen, also from Finland."

My understanding is that Sulake is the company that actually creates and runs VMK, under the direction of Disney. I do not know if the in-game staff are actually Sulake employees or Disney employees, but this seems to be a question many people have.

I have heard rumors that part of the issue is that Sulake owns the engine that runs the game while Disney owns the creative content. Therefore, if Disney wanted to pull the VMK contract from Sulake, it would have to be re-built complete by another company or internally by Disney.

I have NO IDEA if this is true or not true, but I have heard it from many people at this point.

In game staff work for Sulake as we always understood it.

I do not believe so.

But look at this quote from Yavn Speaks:

"So what's going to happen to the VMK Staff when VMK closes? Well, we're all moving onto other projects here at Disney and positively looking ahead to the future."

If they did work for Sulake, why would they move onto other Disney projects? popcorn::

Yavn works for disney, not Sulake :)

Has anyone sent their letters by registered mail? I think I am going to do that tomorrow. That way I know they got them!
