Saving Mr. Banks

Totally OT but I found the trivia a little interesting. Emma Thompson who will play PL Travers also played Nanny Mcphee which was touted as a new Mary Poppins for film (though it was also based on a book by another author). I suppose that really isn't all that interesting except within my own brain...

It is sad but some times creative people do not like when people mess with their creation. Completely off topic but if you have ever seen Stephen King interviewed he is very vocal about how he HATED Stanley Kubric's film of The Shining.

I look forward to seeing what Tom Hanks does with the role

Absolutely agree. As an artist, I hate myself sometimes for not being able to create what I envision. Let alone someone else messing with it. lol

I'll have to do a search for the Stephen King interview. I had no idea he hated it so much. I do but, for very different reasons. :scared1:

Looks like a "must see" for us...

The HD cinematography looks especially gorgeous.

I wonder how many of my fellow Disney nerds have already gone to work trying to spot inconsistencies in a supposed 1960's DL Magic Kingdom.

(I already caught an obvious one on the carousel) :rotfl:

Looking forward to it already ! :)

I genuinely wonder what people's reactions will be when they realise that Mary Poppins was based upon a book series. I'm really looking forward to the film.

I have a friend who was one of the leads in the Broadway show, they were telling me so many complained about the show, saying why did they have to change it from the movie etc, not realising that the musical is based upon the books, not the movie. People used to walk out of the show and demand their money back.

Really? I saw the play and loved it, yes, it was different from the movie, which I also love, but it had elements of the movie too and I didn't think it was sooooooooooooooooooo different that people would walk out? Plays are often different from the movies, like movies are often different from the books.

Personally this excites me mostly because it seems to be a movie about making a movie and that's pretty cool! :)

I have mixed feelings about Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. I know that he is a very good actor, but it just doesn't seem like a good match. I'm hoping he proves me wrong.

I thought it was perfect casting! :lmao:

It's one of those things were you'll never get everyone happy with the outcome, I guess I'm just lucky that I couldn't think of anyone better.

I am really looking forward to seeing this.

I love Tom Hanks, and think that he is the best choice of famous actors to play Walt Disney.

However, I wonder if going with a less-well-known actor might have worked better. Someone who has impeccable acting ability, but doesn't have so much recognition. Tom Hanks is so famous, that viewers might be distracted by the fact that it is "Tom Hanks" as Walt. Like a PP said, it is easy to be reminded of Woody from Toy Story.

If Walt were played by an "unknown", viewers would not be thinking about the famous actor, only of Walt.

Then again, it would be unusual for a mature actor get a starring role in a big movie.

I'm also very excited to see this movie! And I love Tom Hanks! But I agree that it's hard to think of Tom Hanks and not relate back to previous roles. We shall see.

Yup, I'm being absolutely serious. Apparently, people got up (either during the show or at intermission), walked out and went to the ticket office to demand their money back. The reasoning was, "How dare they change such a beloved movie into such a dark and horrid thing? This is not right. Walt would be disgusted!" and then demand their money back.

I loved the show too and didn't find too many differences between the show, the books and the movie. I mean, the show even had penguins in and people were complaining that were no penguins.

I'm also looking forward to this movie. I think Tom Hanks and Emma thompson are incredible actors, and they always do a great job in every performance. Guess we'll all just have to wait and see. popcorn::

I had the opportunity to see an advanced screening of Saving Mr Banks this week, and I really loved the movie.

As a Disney Geek, seeing Walt Disney brought to life on the screen was as much a joy as the scenes filmed on the Walt Disney Studios and at Disneyland...but that was just frosting on a really beautiful and emotional story.

Walt's love of the Mary Poppins story is shown as more than just a promise he made to his daughters, and it made Walt Disney more human to me, even if I find out the screenwriter exaggerated the meaning of the Mary Poppins stories to Walt.

A great dramatic movie with many lighthearted moments! I recommend it fully!

This is soo good to hear -really looking forward to it!

I was lucky enough to go to an advanced screening.
The movie is amazing.
It made me laugh and cry(my mom passed away last month and Mary Poppins was one of the first movies we ever went to when a was a little girl)
Tom Hanks gives a great performance,as does Emma Thompson.
Colin Ferrell was a very nice surprise addition.

I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Personally, I'm scared of Tom Hanks' performance. Looks like the director forgot to mention that Disney was from the Midwest, not the south. Wrong accent there, Tom.

Saw Saving Mr Banks in London yesterday. I cried all the way through, not sure I was meant to but certainly wasn't the only one.

I really loved it, very sentimental. I hope everyone will enjoy as much as we did.
