Just wondering if anyone else has watching the just released official trailer for Saving Mr. Banks, which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins.

I cannot wait for this movie. I adore Tom Hanks and he seems to really be giving a wonderful performance as Walt. Emma Thompson seems to be absolutely perfect in her role. I was also excited to see BJ Novak, who you may know from The Office, as Robert Sherman.

Thoughts on the trailer? Anybody else excited?!

Very exciting. We had a great time with Richard Sherman last fall and he told us a lot of "behind the scenes" stories.

I'm very curious to see how they end it, because P.L. Travers HATED the movie and wouldn't give Walt rights to any other books.

I am interested to see this. It looks good. I love both Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson but how the collaboration ended does worry me how they will end the movie.

On a side note, I saw the musical of Mary Poppins in London (which PL Travers approved of). It is much darker than the film. I enjoyed the film more and find it to be more magical. I don't think that they are up for comparison though.

I agree, especially after seeing the trailer. I think he sounds more like Woody than Walt for a start. I always thought George Clooney would make a good Walt, but I heard Tom Hanks really wanted the part. Still very excited to see it though and still think it will be good.

I was a little nervous about Tom Hanks portrayal of Walt Disney as the trailer started. It does not seem like a Walt impression, but instead I think Tom Hanks is being respectful while portraying Walt in this role. St the end of the trailer I laughed, '...I just won 20 bucks'

I'm looking forward to the movie!

Can't wait! The trailer looks awesome. I would love to see it as a double-feature with the original Mary Poppins! As an earlier post alluded, P.L. Travers hated the movie and not only did her will stipulate that none of her other stories would be made into films but also that Mary Poppins itself cold never be remade. Sure enough, Mary Poppins has never been remade (but why remake a film that is "practically perfect in every way"?

Hi, What a shame that PL Travers hated the movie when SO MANY of us LOVED it!! I can still remember sitting in the theater with my grandparents and watching Mary Poppins. I was only 7 years old. And YES I am very excited to see this movie!! And I think Tom Hanks will definitely nail the role of Walt Disney. Joan

I am so excited for this movie. It looks simply magical from the trailer. This might be the film to make up for Disney's recent live action flops.

I didn't know the history of Mary Poppins. It is one of there great Disney. Masterpieces though. As far as Tom Hanks. I'm not sure who I would have picked to play Walt but I don't think it would've been him. That being said I think he will do a fine job. I mean really playing Walt has got to be a daunting task and I am not sure that there is anyone who could totally nail it. Tom Hanks really wanted this part and I have to believe that it is because he feels connected to Walt. I am sure he will give his best in making Walt come alive on screen. I Always have likes Tom Hanks . I have already told my eh that we have a date in December. Can't wait!!

Even if you don't see Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, Mr. Hanks does put the time in to learn the subjects he is portraying. Look what happened after Saving Private Ryan and Apollo 13. I actually remember watching Mr. Hanks on a program many, many things and he was talking about Disney movies that he loved. And he was quite passionate about it.

I think that for us Walt Disney has become an icon and it's very very hard to capture the essence of an icon for everyone.

I agree with this. At least for me. It is tough to think of who could play Walt. But I love Mary Poppins. I'm very excited to see this.

It is sad that PL Travers didn't like it. But, it was her creation and I guess she just had a different vision in her head.

It is sad but some times creative people do not like when people mess with their creation. Completely off topic but if you have ever seen Stephen King interviewed he is very vocal about how he HATED Stanley Kubric's film of The Shining.

I look forward to seeing what Tom Hanks does with the role
