Or rather, getting more for my money is a sport.
Here are some sites I use on a regular basis.
Although this one is directed towards us folks in Green Country, there are national chains listed AND great information on how to best use sales and coupons to your advantage.
http://www.moneysavingqueen.com/
For instance, this is one of the listed deals for Target this week:
The 10/3 GM tells you that the corresponding coupon came from the flyer that General Mills published on 10/3. They do this for many stores.
I also use http://coupongeek.net, http://coupongal.net, and many more.
As I mentioned in another post, this is the deal I got yesterday due to an email from one of my mom blogs:
Walgreen's had a sale on 9.9 oz Pretzel M&Ms...4/$10. If you bought the 4/$10, you received $5 in Register Rewards to use towards a future purchase. I also found out from the mom blog that M&Ms was offering $1.00 off coupons for a 9.9 oz bag of Pretzel M&Ms. I printed 4.
Pretzel M&Ms 4/$10-$5RR-$4 in coupons = OOP (Out Of Pocket) 4/$1 M&Ms. $0.25 a bag.
I will now use that $5RR to buy something else that gives me RR thereby "rolling" them over.
Non-food items I have stored:
2 bottles laundry detergent
1 box fabric softener
3 tubes toothpaste
3 toothbrushes
3 bottles shampoo
1 bottle body wash
12 packages dental floss
6 boxes Kleenex
A smattering of candles and cleaning supplies.
I have about 16-ish cans of soup in my cupboard...the good kind not the condensed...that I paid anywhere from $0.50/can to $1.25/can. When Target had Kraft shredded cheese on sale for $2/each and Kraft itself offered $5 off the purchase of 5 selected items, I got shredded cheese for $1 a bag. For a meal, Charlie and I use 2 cans of soup and make Quesidillas (sp?) with the shredded cheese.
This can be done, but I won't lie. It takes work. But, if you look at it as a challenge, it can be fun, too.
Another way to save 5% on your shopping bill: If you shop at Target, and you have a checking account, you can get a Target Debit Card. It is a regular debit card like the one your bank would give you, but it can only be used at Target. This is NOT a credit card. Every time you use the Target Debit Card, you get an automatic 5% off your bill. There is no more saving up "points" with Target's Red Cards anymore...it's all an automatic 5%. Don't forget that you can also save $0.05 for each re-usable bag you bring from home to use rather than their plastic ones.
Disclaimer: I work for Target...but I also promoted a Walgreen's deal.
I shop where it works for my budget.
