Saving for your Disney Vacation

We use my annual bonus to pay for vacations... :littleangel:

I use my state tax refund (for this year anyways) and will TRY to save to pad that as that'll cover the ticket and whatever my share of the room tab will be (it's a group trip and I think they're getting one of the big villas or something where you can sleep a BUNCH of people...). I also do the change jar but I don't add as much to it anymore since I mainly use my debit card moreso than cash. But I try to save $$ out of each week's paycheck.

My car will be paid off soon, and I plan to put away the same amount (as if I were still paying the car) - some will be headed into a "Disney Fund" and the other portion will be going to the "new car" fund. :)
I can't wait to go back!

DF and I did the same. :thumbsup2 We paid off my car and his motorcycle, and then dropped our insurance down to liability. The extra money we just put in savings.. we put a third into a new car account, another third into a vacation account, and the last third into our wedding account. :goodvibes

We just put money every month into a savings account (not our emergency account). Then when we want to buy something expensive or go on a vacation we just pull it out of that account.

We save the change but its really for something special once a year. We cash in the Mickey Fund and use the money for a nice dinner usually.

For the regular expenses, we own DVC so the monthly dues are just part of my budget. I have thought about paying them in January using my Southwest Airlines rewards card but haven't got around to doing it! So they are just transferred from my checking account. I have a regular monthly amount moved from checking to an account designated for vacation/entertainment expenses. I also allocate part of my annual bonus to vacations. Although this year it is probalby going to go to tuition for my college age daughter.

I get a couple of free flights each year on Southwest by using their credit card. I think it is worth more than doing the Disney Rewards card.

We just put money into savings each week. Nothing terribly exciting.

I've never really understood the logic of saving loose change in a water jug. It all adds up the same at the end. If I pay for something with the change I've gotten back, that means I haven't spent the dollar in order to get the change.

But then I have to carry change around with me. I don't carry a purse, and my wallet is too small to fit more than a couple of coins in at most and still be able to close it.

I used to charge my trips and pay it off in a few months. Now I am going to start using smartypig.com savings accounts for my vacations.

Ooooooh, a wedding fund........:lovestruc:bride: Congrats!!

Change jug
I allow myself X amount of money to go food shopping with, whatever is left after my order, goes into the fund. Motivates me to clip coupons more.
Anything money I get from the consignment shop goes into the fund.

I'm in on the "no buy" thread on the budget board. My new thing for April (in addition to the "no buy" days) is for every four days that I don't buy any "non-essential" items, $20.00 goes into the Disney bucket. It's an inspiration to not buy things I really dont need, and it's helping to fund the next trip to Disney!

And it keeps "junk" out of your house so you'll be clutter free!:thumbsup2
