* Saving Coins

I truly appreciate all of your responses. I think maybe my post was misunderstood. My bank doesn't have a free coin machine (I do have a credit union, but the office is 30 miles away - gas would cost the same amount as the 10.9% fee!!) I know I can roll my own (and have), but would love the convenience of using Coinstar and requesting a gift card - a Disney gift card! Getting an Amazon card doesn't help with my goal of getting a Disney gift card.

I just thought if other people wrote to Coinstar and requested that they add Disney as a gift card option, maybe they would add Disney so that none of us have to pay a fee....

Well, my point (and perhaps that of some of the PPs) is that even if CoinStar were to offer Disney GCs as a possible redemption, I still would not be using them. Why tie my cash in a GC? Even a jar full of pennies is cash! And cash can be used for anything, not just Disney.

I see no reason to email a business with a request to make a change when I have no intention of patronizing that business even if they were to make that change. Perhaps you can just hang onto your change until a time when you are planning to be in the neighborhood of your credit union? That way you wouldn't have to pay a fee to exchange it for cash or redeem your coins for a GC that you don't want.

I like to count and roll my coins also. I think it is fun. Also, I have used it as a way to teach my kids about saving and counting money. Neither of my banks have a counting machine and going to the main branch where they might have one isn't convenient.
A couple years ago CoinStar did offer Disney as one of the choices. Can you get a store GC and exchange it for a Disney one?

I work for a credit union and we had to take our coin machine away because members always had other junk mixed in with the coins and it would clog the machine (Paper clips, boby pins, staples, washers, foreign coin). Now we hand roll everything. We won't take loose coin that can be rolled, so please do not show up with a jar of coin and think the poor teller is going to roll it for you if they don't have a coin machine.
I use the self check out at the grocery store and pay with my loose coin, no sorting or rolling involved. I love it.

It's actually 10.9% if you request cash back instead of a GC, according to their FAQs. :scared: Who knowingly pays that much for the convenience of having someone else process your coins?

Since I've heard of people THROWING AWAY their change- they must be out there.

Does Coinstar offer no-fee Target Giftcards? Can you use those to buy Disney cards?

Thank you, OP, for the information...I got your point that you were offering information and a suggestion.

The posters on this board are always looking out for everyone's best interest on what they think you should do, whether you ask for it or not. That's all the above pp is trying to say (I *think*, at least lol...I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong! Haha)

:)

Why did I never think of this?! Thank you for the idea. I just checked the CoinStar Website, and they do offer Target gift cards! Genius!
