I just counted the change that I have been saving for my November trip because the jar was full and I couldn't get any more in it. I've been saving about 2months and the grand total was................. $87.50! I'm taking it to the Disney store today to change it into Disney dollars. I have about 6months left before my trip and if I can average $45 a month, I will have about $350 for a grand total. It really is a painless way to save money.

It really is a painless way to save.We counted our change bucket on Sunday and to our surprise there was $179(we have dollar and two dollar coins up here). This was for May.We are hoping to save most of our spending money this way.So hopefully saving at least $100 a month and the Canadian dollar staying strong we will reach our goal.

Saving change is a great, painless way to accumulate Disney spending money. I add loose change and also any rebates or coupon money. It's amazing how fast it can add up.:bounce:

I always do this, it fun to watch it fill up. My one thing that kept happening was dipping into. If the kids asked for $.50 for snack at school and the smallest bill I had in my wallet was a $5, then hands go in the jar. I have recently solved that by taking a giant pickle jar and cutting disney characters out of the disney catalog and an old calendar I had and decorated the jar with it. I can't see how full it is so now it like outta sight outta mind. It's got about $50 in it so far. I have counted the first pile inFebruay and there was a whoppin $104.36 in there. To the Disney Store I went and got $100 DIsney Dollars. :teeth: :teeth:
My goal is $300 by mid-August, that will be our 2 "nice resturant dinner" money.

I agree ! It's a painless way to save.
We keep our jar in the corner of our bedroom
and empy our change into it every night.
About every 2 weeks, I roll the change.
That way I would have to think twice about
dipping into it.
In 2 1/2 months, we've saved $129 +.
With our trip comming up in about 2 months,
we hope to reach our goal of $400.

I do the saame and it sure adds up fact. I never spend loose change- if something is #1.04, I pay with $2.00 and the change goes into the bottom of my purse, then into the change jar. Actually, I got one of those change sorters where you drop your change into the slot and it falls into it's own sleeve. When it fills up, you just stick the rolled paper tube down it and it's rolled. It's a lot less tempting to break open a roll of coins that way.

when I first started reading the DIS boards for our trip and saw this suggested, I thought why not, I just saved since March and cashed in$84 last week. We were not even that great about putting money in, and I know we dipped in several times for that odd.50 the kids would need. Its a great painless idea.

I counted out pennies last week - ended up with $44.30..

Haven't counted the silver yet (which I've only been saving since late March) but I can see there are a LOT of quarters in there!!

I have until December to save change so it should be interesting to see how much I end up with..

Hey - money is money - right?? ;)

We are saving change in a Disney Juice container - it's our "slush fund" for the cruise!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc We won't have to worry about needing a dd, so we are both going to enjoy ourselves! ;)

I save my change in a water cooler empty bottle. The neck is small so it is hard to "dip in" Only problem is it's getting heavy! I don't have any idea how much is in there - I'll just keep saving until I'm ready to go to Disney again.

We use an old water bottle as well. My husband save's the extra change from his pizzeria each night. Once we hit 1/3 of the way full, we added it up...$924.00 since January!!! Needless to say, we were THRILLED!!! Disney, here we come, 123 days to go!!!

$924!!! :bounce:
I thought we were good.
My girlfriend and I started saving change and extra bills the day before the Super Bowl, and so far we have $358 and some coins in our pretzel keg. Every once in a while we'll look at one another and each put in whatever the largest bill in our wallet is. For the past 2 times we went to the ball (and for each time from here on out) we get $20 in Disney Dollars. And since we're putting the Disney Dollars on the Disney Visa, it puts us even an little bit closer to WDW. :) :)

We just had to raid our change jar. :( We convert it into bills every couple of months & put the bills back in the jar. It turns out that's a dumb thing to do!

A big tree in our backyard needed to come down, and our nephew does tree removal, but only for cash. So there went $200 out of the vacation fund. Because of the short notice & the way our bank accounts are set up, that was the only way to get the money. :(

I'm hoping DH will write a check back to the jar, but with baby #2 due in a few weeks, it seems unlikely! We really should open a new bank account, but we like to keep the change separate, so it doesn't feel like real (ie spendable!) money. Until now, that is.

After I counted the money from the jar I went to the Disney Store and got Disney dollars with the money. That way I hae the money saved for the trip and it can't be spent anywhere but Disney!

These threads have inspired me. My kids and I went through the whole house and the cars and collected all the loose change. We rolled it and plan to cash it in and buy Disney Dollars, and then continue to save change. DD6 and DD3 were thrilled to be doing something for the Disney trip, even though we are planning on going Dec '04. Plenty of time to save up change!

I saved over $400 for my New Orleans trip this past May by throwing change, odd dollars, and paychecks into my savings jar. I started doing that in Feb and it was AMAZING how much money I saved in 3 1/2 months. DH and I came home with money too! :teeth: I'm working on our trip home to South Carolina in September. All I need to save for is gas and food, we'll be staying with his mom. :)

We start a new one every time we get back from Disney. We counted it last week for our trip next week and there was about $500 in there. We use every left over change that we have. I never pay with change, even tolls we go through the change receipts line and put the change into the container. We even have the kids involved. If they see us go for change in our pockets they remind us what it is for. Painless way to save in my opinion.

DH and I also purchase Disney Dollars with our change. It turns out to be the best way to save for that must have expensive souveneir that I would never get with "normal money"! So far we have 300 Disney Dollars saved since Feb for our Oct trip...I can't wait to see the final count of change that we save.

Change saving rules!

I started saving all my change when I was young, single and poor, so I could always afford some groceries in a tough month. When my Hubby and I got engaged, we started pooling our change for our Disney honeymoon.

For last year's trip, we did the usual change saving (we have a giant plastic crayon bank), but I also threw in all my work bonuses (didn't tell Hubby, he'd rather me put them in the bank--Bor-ing, plus they pay virtually no interest anyway) and extra pocket money. We wound up with more than $1800 in there. We had paid off our AAA package ahead of time, and the cash we'd saved paid for all our travel and on-site spending, and we had money left over for Christmas.

This year, I am saving change, singles and "found" money. I am putting $100 per month from my pay into my Spacechip Earth box to help pay for my nephew's trip (he and his parents and grandmother are coming with us). I have already bought some Disney Dollars to distribute to everyone when we arrive to start them all off with some extra magic. Our AAA card earns us $50 certificates to use at AAA, so I can get Disney travel gear and photo albums.

Sure, I could just put everything on the credit card and pay it off right away, but my little saving schemes add much more magic!
