Good for you, we love satying off site, you get some much more room, for so much less money. We always like to take some of the money saved and use it for character meals, stuff like that. When people who stay onsite only talk about the "Disney Magic" that's what they mean anyways; at least, it can't possibly be riding the buses for a couple hours a week, can it?

When I think of "Disney Magic", I think of no traffic jams on 192 when trying to get anywhere near the Disney property, or Orlando area. That is why we stay onsite, I hate traffic jams.

I guess it depends when you go. We have stayed offsite along the 192 corridor many times and have never once encountered any significant traffic getting to or from Disney property. We do go offseason though. The situation may be different during Christmas week or other peak times. But the rest of the time, we are usually at the parks within 10-15 minutes, about the same time it takes to get from the Disney hotels to the parks.

I stayed off-site at Windsor Palms at Christmas and it was only 15 minutes from the turnstiles to our driveway at the villa. We used the Sherberth Road cut-off, and did not encounter terrible traffic jams. At park closing one night my brother missed the AK turnoff, and took the long way around adding about 15 minutes to his trip.

I'm staying at Windsor Palms in October. Can someone tell me more about the Sherberth Road shortcut?

We have stayed off site for the last 5 years. It was a hard choice for me. Iwas terrified. I mean all I ever heard was the crime in Orlando was terrible. What they do not tell you is that the crime that is committed ON Disney property does not get the same attention as off. We stay at a gated resorts like Vistana Village,Wyndham Palms, and Vista Grande with no problem.

For a little more money than (depending on specials) an All Star or a little less money then a POrt Orleans (depending on how you look at it) we got two bedrooms full kitchen two baths and three tv's and beautifully decorated. There is no compairson. We used to stay 7 days now we stay 15 or 16 for the same price. We have an annual pass so really when you figure it out is it much less.

I am thrilled you saved 2000.00! There is a big exciting city past the gates on site. Great restaurants on Sand Lake road and even some great malls. I feel that it just extends the "magic" rather than takes away from it when we stay off site.

Wow, you saved a lot of money! We're staying offsite this year too and right now I have my eye on the Sheraton Safari but I'm not completely sure yet. Saving money is a big factor for me this time.

As for traffic, we've never had much trouble when we've stayed in Kissimmee or Buena Vista. International Drive is another matter.

Hi...this link will show you Sherberth Road. It is straight south of Animal Kingdom. Turn North on Sherberth from 192, it will be about 1+ miles to a stop light. Turn Right to Animal Kingdom and all parks. Left is AK Lodge and Boma's, a don't miss buffet.
As you drive down Sherberth you will hit a long straight stretch of road. Look straight ahead. See the tree that is higher than the others and is a little different shade of green. It is the Tree of Life in AK. To exit Disney via Sherberth follow the signs to Animal Kingdom from inside Disney. When you get close take the LEFT road that says AK Lodge and you will be back at the stop light. Turn LEFT and follow Sherberth back to 192.......You are now a Disney Pro!!!
