So I took a cue from some of you on here and called our internet/phone provider yesterday to talk about our monthly bill. We've been paying $98 for the bundle of DSL, local and long distance phone service each month. I locked that price in 3 years ago when we moved in. But the budget is getting a bit tight, so I thought I'd see what they could do. The very nice girl I talked to said that we are eligible for their "loyalty discount" as well as another price-lock rate for 5 years, so she was able to get us down to $71 a month total for our phone and internet package!:cool1: Just letting others know that it can't hurt to give your service provider a call to see what they can do for you.

I was wondering the same thing bc I never seem to have any luck with them and was hoping that's who it was!

Wonderful! You don't happen to have Time Warner, do you?

Time Warner uses cable modems, not DSL.

Another great way to reduce your home phone bill is to stop having a home phone. More and more people, especially those under 35, do not have a home phone.

I did the same thing with Comcast. I called to ask of any specials I could apply to my current service (cable, phone and internet) to make it cheaper. The rep signed me up for another year for the same service, and I save $25 a month.:cool1:

We've been thinking of giving up our land line but I still need to see if this would save us anything over the "bundle" price we get from Verizon.

Does anyone have Magic Jack for home phone service ?

:)

I'm in Brooklyn and we have Verizon Fios. I had the same idea as you, to drop the land line, get Magic and just pay for tv and internet. Turns out it costs MORE if we drop the land line! Without the "bundle", we'd have to pay separately for tv and internet, which raises the price. :sad2:

I'm going to call tomorrow and check. We have a bundle for DSL, satellite TV, and a land line, but the prices are getting ridiculous. We are paying $194 a month!!! Here's hoping I can get a discount. We've been customers for years and years.

ACK!!! Op, your price is still so high....I'm glad they dropped it for you,but I am in a fix w/Comcast right now myself.....I paid 49.99 for a year of phone and internet- price just jumped to 70 per month w/fees.:headache:
I'm unwilling to pay that much. So I called and politely asked if we could sign up for something else, and was told a flat out NO!
I did let them know I'd be looking elsewhere (sigh) but they said that was just fine.....I'm about ready to dump our landline at this point, it is so high!
in my area,I only have 2 choices, and neither are cheap....
I can get internet for 15 a month for a year with another special, but the landline is 35.00! I'll probably switch anyway as 70 is not happening.
:sad2:I knew this was coming, get us all hooked, make us think we NEED all these services, raise prices across the board. Well, I'm not hooked, and I will survive ok,just like before, without all these services!

It's crazy isn't it ? Seems like it should save $ but yet it doesn't :sad2: We don't think Time Warner is worth switching back to either.
