I grabbed a Magical Rates Gty. Cat. 12 7 night cruise for my family of 4 over spring break 06 at $2996 (not including taxes.) I know I will not get to choose my stateroom, but today I looked on the disney cruise site and saw that Cat. 11s are going for $2645 more than what I paid. Because we are a family of 4, a cat. 11 is exactly what we will end up in.

I was just really excited and wanted to share the news! I have read over and over again to "book the room you are happy with" and not take a gty. if you are not okay with not knowing your room assignment. For that much money, I am willing to take the gty. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Has anyone else saved mucho dinero on cat. 12 gty rooms?

Well that is fantastic....We always go with the "cheapest" rooms, as we spend little time in it, other than sleeping...IF you are ok with any room, that helps the $$ scenerio...

Although "some" rooms are noise, there really are very few..

We make the most of whereever we are, and always find a way to reason it out...
:goodvibes

I tried to book it online as a family of 4, and it would not let me (showed no category 12). When I put in only one child, category 12 showed up. Maybe I will try and call. Don't know if i could give up my SPH room though - have to see how many $$$ involved.

Just called DCL, and all the Magical Rates are gone. I watched them go up $60/person a couple of days ago, to being sold out today. My fault - I wish I had picked up the phone earlier!!! AAAARGH!!!
The lady at DCL said all the Magical Rates were sold out except for April 22.

Congrats!! That's a lot of money saved! :earseek: Definitely worth not being able to choose your room; plus, you are very likely to get upgraded!
Good luck! :goodvibes

To book a 12gty with 4 people, you must call DCL or your TA. You cannot do it on line because 12s are only for 3. If you book a 12 for 4, you will automatically get at least an 11.

We booked a cat 12 GTY for our family of four also. I'd never looked at it from a dollars and cents point of view like you have (other than I knew we reserved the least expensive category)! Since we are guaranteed a cat 11 too, I just checked DCL's website and the savings for us is $885 using DCL's prices. The savings is $1,119 if I go by what we paid at Costco for the 12 and DCL's price for the 11. You saved a TON of money on yours! Have a great time!

I booked the Magical rates for Spring break too. Which sailing did you book?

Thanks for posting this! Has anyone booked this rate directly through Disney?

I (the OP) actually booked through the DCL website itself. I just happened to look one night and the Magical Rate was available. I grabbed it quickly and then kept an eye on the website daily after that. It was available for a few days after I booked (just this June), but now it is gone.

We are sailing on the March 25th, :cheer2: 7 night Western.

Just FYI, you can book 4 people in a cat. 12 through the DCL website. The rate is not always, or even often available but it can be done. ::MinnieMo

What are "magical rates"? Is that like a sale on certain cruises?

I did try booking on the DCL website for four with no success. Oh, well. At least I already have a cabin.
That was a great snag on your part!
And yes, magical rates are a sale - unbelievable that they had some for spring break.

I checked for Magical Rates on www.mousesavers.com. they usually list the dates available and price per person based on double occupancy. Then I booked through www. cheaptickets.com. They had the best rate at the time.

Just checked with All Seasons Travel and they do not have any more at this price for 4 people, only for 2 or 3 people.

Cheaptickets didn't have rooms for 4 people at this price either. Guess we missed the 'boat' on that one. We still have our 4 night to look forward to, though! :Pinkbounc

westjones, I think you have to get a TA or DCL to book four people in a CAT 12, I read that somewhere here on the boards.

Yes, I talked to DCL and I talked to All Season's Travel, and they don't have any left. I didn't talk to anyone at cheaptickets, but I am guessing they are all gone.

It is probably for the best, we already have plans for our 4 night with 2 nights at WDW afterwards. We have a SPR booked and we love having the window, so we will be fine.

Way to Go!!!!

I have been crusing for over 30 years, and was always told "Book the cheapest room on the best Ship".

You epitomize that, perfectly!!!

Someone elsewhere had a DD who loved a verandah, but when it was explained they could go on TWO cruises at GTY for the price of one with the verandah....Guess which she picked?!?!

True, you won't get to have breakfast on your verandah, but who want to pay over 2,600 for a slightly nicer breakfast table????

Not me.

GTY means "guarantee" - basically from what I understand you are guaranteed a cabin on the cruise but you don't get to choose it.
