Save the money or upgrade?

So, I too have been obsessing over pins and FDing, but, I am just curious....what do you normally do when you get your pin or FD?

We will be a family of 3 adults, 1 child, and 2 infants, so, the options of where we stay are very limited. It seems from what I am reading, that a lot of people end up in a deluxe resort when they get a discount or FD. We are in POR, and I am very excited about our stay there. So, I can see myself saying, yeah! I saved a ton of money!!!!!!

I have $1000 saved to put on our trip, just kind of waiting around and holding on the money until the trip gets closer. If we end up with FD, in the same resort we are booked in, I would only need $33 more dollars to pay off my vacation! Now, that would be exciting!

I just got my pin, and initially was tempted to upgrade, but have decided to pocket the savings---something tells me we will spend it many times over!

I am one that ended up spending more $ by upgradeing when I got my pin. Originally DH and myself were going to stay 7 days at POR got the pin for 40 off Deluxe so made reservations for AKL. Then DS and wife said they would like to go so upgraded again to 1bdrm Villa for the 4 of us and since DS is out of work right now DH and myself are paying for the resort.

So at first we were going to spend I think 144 a nite @ POR, then 180 AKL standard room, and now 276 + tax for a villa, but we did go from 7 nites @POR down to 5 nites @AKV Send me a pin and I spent more to save more

I'd say pocket the money, but I know that I would probably upgrade. I can't help myself sometimes! Good luck with your decision. It's not a bad position to be in!

For us we try to save as much money as possible, so with free dining we book a value hotel. My husband and I are taking an Adult only trip in May and since we did not have a free dining pin / offer we took the room discount and decided to try a moderate this time since it was only a couple hundred more then the value. Though to be honest I'm still thinking of the money I could have saved by staying at the value.
