I was given a used Electrolux about 6 years ago, that worked great until last year. I've had 2 vacuums in the meantime, and neither can perform even close to that Electrolux. My MIL spent about $450 on this vacuum maybe 10 years ago, and that is way out of my budget. I LOVE that Electrolux!!!

Have you used a vacuum repair shop in the past 5 years? How much did you spend to fix your vacuum? How much is too much?

ETA- Sorry, meant to post on Budget Board.

Well, without being there, and knowing what the problem might be, and how much it would take to completely repair/refurbish, I am not sure we can help. I can say that with the lack of quality in vacuums today, a refurbished electrolux would probably be superior!

If you end up thinking about investing in a new vac, I very highly recommend the Meile. I thought that the salesperson was just running his mouth when he talked about 'zero' dust/particulate emissions. Even though he had some kind of high-tech air quality device that he placed in the Meile's air exhaust to show it. (actually showed almost zero emissions, as compared to 400 in the air in the room - cleaning the air.....)

Well, I've had my Meile upright (maybe the Tango) for almost a year now, and I am a believer. I noticed that now, on the Miele website, there are links to credible, verified, reports that show this to me true. I used my old vac while my Miele went back to the retailer for his free one-year inspection and tune-up, OMG, what a dustbag in comparison... (choke.. cough.. gag...)
