Save me from myself! I've been offered a LaserDisk player for $200! I don't need one and would never use it but it's just such a good deal for a decent example...

I too have a soft spot for retro tech, especially video games, but I do have to ask myself how much use I would get out of it. In some cases it might be worth, but in some cases it wouldn't. It's not like you're going to watch movies on that thing. For $200 I'd take a pass.

I had to update the AV system in my RV. Everything in there was high end but 2006 technology. I was having a terrible time getting rid of it but my wife being the voice of reason stated that it was no longer functional and get rid of it! I did. Probably around $5k in equipment. And it was all replaced by a handful of HDMI cables. Actually I did have to buy a new tuner/amplifier.

In my case the saving me from myself was not TECH related but an inner voice saying *it looks so good* thus I just didn't have enough willpower put a stop to the purchase a 2010 Miata MX5. Definitely not needed but it is fun to drive.

Can't help you. We have a LaserDisk player and break it out occasionally for the nostalgia factor.
