The October 2009 issue of Consumers Reports has an article comparing store brands with national brands. They did a blind taste test.

They compared Lindt Swiss Tradition DeLuxe Collection with Kirkland Signature -(COSTCO)Belgium. It was a tie. Lindt cost $1.86 per ounce and the Kirkland cost 75 cents per ounce.

Again this was a blind taste test. Don't let chocolate "snobs" confuse the issue.

EDITED to specify Kirkland is COSTCO's store brand.

Kirkland is the Costco house brand.

HOWEVER, they did not include quite a few chocolates in that report. Last year See's came out on top and I still prefer it to the ones listed in the latest CU report. So for those of you who live west of the Mississippi River, enjoy a box for me!!!! :)

Ooohh...I love See's Candy. I send it to my Aunt on the East coast every year for Christmas. I should send it just becuasehttp://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

See's beats Godiva hands down in my book. Moonstruck is delicious too (out of Portland, OR), but a little fancier. Ethel M's is also quite tasty. But I'd say all of those are in a different league from what you can find at the grocery store or Costco.

These blind taste tests always baffle me. I'm not sure who the tasters are, or if they are even people who "know" chocolate, but I've tried this on their recommendation, and you CAN tell the difference. :lmao: For me, I'll stick to the name brands since they do tend to taste better.
