Savannah view when it’s cold

are the animals still out when it’s in the 60s day and 40s at night?

I’ve heard that a few of the animals are bought in at night if it’s going to be that cold but they would be allowed out duing the day. And year round the animals are brought in to the barns in the mornings for health checks etc. Just something to keep in mind if you don’t see them then.

Yes, although I learned during the Wanyama safari I did 2 weeks ago that they bring the Giraffes in when it's below 45 F at night. I've known for awhile that the red river hogs come in when it's cold, but I also learned that they are also brought in at night because if they weren't they'd destroy their section of the savanna w/ all their digging
It dipped below 45 a couple of nights 2/3 weeks ago and we still saw the Eland and the 2 Oryx below our balcony those nights.
Interestingly, a fellow safari guest asked about what they do w/ the animals during hurricanes and apparently for some species being cooped up would be more stressful than being on the savanna - so it very much depends on the species as to whether they are housed in the barn during hurricanes or left out.

They brought the giraffes and zebra in during the day when it dropped below 50 degrees for the high in late November. And these two breeds were brought in every night of our 17 night stay at Kidani from November 27 through December 13. The hoofed animals, Ankole Cattle and antelopes were only brought in when it was below 45 degrees at night. They were out most days although one day even the antelopes didn't want to come out as the high was in the low 40s. The Ankole cattle and Addax didn't care as they were out anytime they were allowed.

Someone said that the Red River Hogs as were brought in when the giraffes and zebras were, but we never saw those animals on our part of Sunset savanna even on warms days.

Odd, the giraffes were out on Sunset savanna (the big savanna between Kidani and Jambo) several nights between 11/29-12/7/2018, because I watched 2 of them, Gigi and her mother, from my balcony on Kudu trail in Jambo a couple of nights around 11 pm. The larger giraffe even sat down for about 15 minutes 2 different nights before wandering off and on our last night I spotted one of the adult giraffes standing looking into the people pen - it was such an odd thing to see the Giraffe standing there silently staring into that pen at 11 pm!
I also watched the Arusha giraffes one night about 10 pm from the Arusha overlook towards the Zebra trail side of Arusha savanna.
Sunset savanna at 18 acres is the largest and has some cul de sacs so sometimes the animals aren’t visible because they are elsewhere on the savanna.

Yes, I'm here now and it's not the greatest of weather. Not sure what will happen today as we have extreme weather. Will keep you posted. Yesterday afternoon & evening the weather started turning crummy in the 50's with rain. Drizzles and actual rain at some times. The animals were out and very active. I actually enjoyed watching two zebras go at it. The entire staff here said they're just playing but it looked serious to me. (Obviously the staff know the animals really well!)

The staff actually mentioned the animals like rain (to a certain extent - again, I'll let you guys know how today goes) - and that they're more active & playful in it. I believe this as I read somewhere on the forums from someone who did the Safari at AK during the rain and said it was the most active she's ever seen the animals.

Relatively "cold" for FL day - 58*F right now, dipping down to 45*F - to top that off, this morning through early afternoon has been full of intermittent rain showers (albeit brief) and 20 mph wind gusts. The animals have been super active - there are four zebras right outside my balcony right now and giraffes in the distance. Lots of kudu and other animals out there as well. Yesterday was very interesting with lots of thunder & lightning on and off and tornado warnings. Animals were all out - although giraffes were hard to see. Whenever the heavy parts of the storm occurred, the animals booked it back to their barns. It was quite a site to see the 10 or so wildebeests hoofing it across the savanna. Lots of action. Also enjoyed just watching some of the animals and cranes just deal with the weather like they would in the wild. Glad we're here and enjoying it! Beautiful resort!

We stayed there December 2017 with a Savannah view. It was colder then usual so we didn't see much as far as animals. End of week it got a little warmer and we saw some giraffe. It's hit or miss in colder months if you want to see animals. We've stayed here in warmer months before and loved it plenty of animals. I wouldn't waste my points for a Savannah view again during December.

It was just a few they were put inside I guess. However they didn't hang around our area of the savanna either at night either. I imagine giraffes have their favorite sleeping areas.

Just back after 7 days at Kidani. What a wonderful trip. Missing the balcony & the views. We did notice that the animals tend to "sleep in" and the bigger beasts (such as the zebras & giraffes) don't come out till 8:30am or so. The mornings are also quite busy with carts crossing the savanna & setting up food, getting ready for the day, etc. Kidani is also undergoing some exterior facade work right now, which absolutely did not bother us one bit during the trip - I actually only noticed them on 12/26, our check-out day, as we were cleaning our villa & packing up and the crew arrived at 8:30am to start their day.
