My boyfriend (31) and I (30) are heading to Hilton Head Island on October 1st for 5 nights.

We are planning to take a day trip to Savannah and wonder if there are any 'must-do' attractions? We have been to Washington DC and enjoyed the memorials and museums etc

Also what about HHI in October - is there anything we must see or do?

Grateful for suggestions :)

Lizzim,

My wife and I did the same thing several years ago, but after the first trip to Savannah, we returned a second day. What a great city. The trolley tours are excellent. And the cuisine is a destination in itself! I highly recommend a a Ghost tour. Several are offered and very reasonable, $10 - $20. Savannah is a short 45 minute drive from the Resort, so not a big deal to stay there into the evening. Have a great time.

DW and I are staying at HHI the last week of October. Any other suggestions for an "old married couple" will be appreciated. :lmao:

Dh and I will be there the same week! We are actually flying in early to Atlanta and staying a night in Savannah. Can't wait. Hope you have a great trip.
If anyone has any recommendations on great B&Bs, I'd love to some recommendations.

Things to do in Savannah...

For the history minded...
Fort Pulaski is pretty good... it's out toward the Tybee Beach. Civil War era fort for whom a young Robert E. Lee oversaw its construction.
There's the Roundhouse Railroad Museum
One of the trolley tours in the downtown historic area is always good.
Tybee Lighthouse - out at Tybee Beach
Wormsloe... Ga State Park of a former plantation home... the home isn't there but the grounds are beautiful. There's a museum and other things to see. The long tree covered driveway in Forrest Gump was filmed there.

food...
Of course Paula Deen is from Savannah and so she and her sons have I believe a couple of restaurants. Of course there are several good seafood restaurants out toward Wilmington Island especially.

River Street...
Shopping and Restaurants right on the river. It's very nice down there. Good place to stroll and watch the ships moving up the river too. You never know who might be docked there from million dollar yachts to once I saw a Greenpeace Ship... that was interesting :)

I was a Girl Scout and the Juliette Gordon Lowe house was a must do for me!
