WE ARE THE TYPE OF PEOPLE THAT ALWAYS ARE OUT OF THE ROOM UNTIL NIGHT TIME COMES. SO I WAS WONDERING IS SAVANNA VIEW REALLY WORTH IT? ARE THE ANIMALS OUT ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT? IF NOT, WHEN ARE THEY OUT TO VIEW FROM YOUR BALCONY? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONES HELP WHO HAS STAYED IN A SAVANNA VIEW IN THE AK LODGE?

THANKS AGAIN

Yes I thought it was worth it! I'm the type who likes to get up early and get to the parks. I would sit out on the balcony with my coffee almost every morning and enjoy watching the animals being fed around 7:30am. We were on the Zebra Trail facing Arusha Savannah and there always seemed to be animals at all times of the day.

I would have to agree that a savannah view is defiantly worth it. We had a savannah view this past Jan and will be getting a savannah this coming Jan. You wil love it!

We are always out of the room too, but we did enjoy looking at the animals early in the morning and late in the afternoon into the night. I would definately recommend it.

I'll post another vote for savannah view. If the price is within your range, it is definitely worth it. We had animals sleeping just below our balcony each night - it was soooo neat! And of course early in the morning when you're getting ready to head out, the animals are up and about. It was just such a unique experience that I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone. :D

We enjoyed our savannah view rooms, which we got at a great rate ($169 a night), but I wouldn't hesitate to stay in a standard view room at the rates that are being offered right now. We didn't spend much time in our rooms, and there are plenty of places to enjoy the animals around the resort.

I know I'm in the minority, but while we loved our stay at AKL, I don't necessarily think the savannah view is worth the extra $$.

No pun intended!! :D I booked a standard view, was upgraded for free to a water/pool view (it was very nice) and a few doors down from my room was a balcony/patio area that had rocking chairs and those binocular type things you see at like the Empire State Building or Eiffel Tower (no charge to use -- some of them at tourist attractions charge) and I sat out there and looked at the animals and it was very nice and relaxing. If you do not plan on spending tons of time in your room and want to just sit and see the animals maybe a few minutes per day than going to one of the public viewing areas should satisfy that for you IMO.

Unless you like to look out your window and view parking lots or concrete walls then yes I believe that it is worth it.

You seem to be trashing AKL, this is one of two (maybe more) posts you have about the lodge and both come of negative. If you do not like animals or do not want to stay at the lodge then don't.

I think it's a good question - we have booked Standard view because of the great discounts. We don't spend alot of time in the rooms either, so I am wondering (hoping) this was the right choice for us. Either way, there is no more money in the budget to upgrade, so I just hope it works out for us. As other posters have mentioned, there seem to be alot of areas to view the animals.

Thanks WDWalways for the information about the balconies. I hope there alot of these types of areas. They sound very nice.

WDW2002 - I don't agree with your comments - I thought the question a fair and reasonable question. No negativity sensed from my end...

Yes, this question taken by itself, if a fair and resonalbe question. However coupled with the other post that the OP posted, it seesm that there is a trend that the OP does not like the AKL and is in fact try to "trash" the resort.

WDW2002,

I think I read the other posting that you are referring to. I guess to me it sounds like DisneyLuvr4Life didn't get their hotel of choice and is trying to get 'psyched' up for AKL or feel better about it.

I guess I know how they feel, as AKL is not my first choice of hotel for our next trip either, but is what the budget permits for this trip. It does help to hear alot of positive comments, to help get in a better frame of mind.

Perhaps I shouldn't speak for DisneyLuvr4Life, but I guess I feel like you may have come on strongly accusing them of trashing the resort. To me it just sounds like they weren't too happy about not getting their first choice. I see that kind of situation on the boards every day. No big deal...

And even if they are trying to "trash" the resort, that's what these boards are for...OPINIONS!!! Like it or not, we're entitled to them!

las3888 -

As I said in my first post, I think it is worth it if it is within your budget. If it is not in your budget for savannah view, I truly don't think you will be disappointed at ALL!!!! There are plenty of public viewing areas. On the second floor there were several balconies along the way with rocking chairs - very comfortable spots to relax and animal watch. Even over by the pool you can do some animal watching. So relax and get excited, because AKL is just a WONDERFUL experience!

And I was giving mine.

Thanks Lass, for sticking up for me. Of course I cant trash AKL till I go there myself and see how it is. I saw it one time briefly and it appeared gorgeous but Ive never stayed there. WdW2002, im sorry if you felt I was trashing AkL, Its just I wanted to get psyched about it since honestly it wasnt my first choice. Im sure it will be a good experience and look forward too it. I am just tight on money right now and was wondering would it be worth it to pay over a 100 dollars more for a savanna view? Also, once you like something its hard to get away from. I love the monorail resorts and it was rough thinking I was subjected to change. Again, sorry if I affended anyone. I just wanted to hear positive things about the resort
