Is the savannah view at AKL worth the money. We will be traveling with a 3 1/2 year old in December and he loves animals. His fav is lions and monkeys. We have thought about getting savannah view at AKL, but wonder if we will be able to see that many animals, or is it luck of the draw to see them? Thanks for you help

We love the savannah view and get it when we can. We have seen giraffe, zebras, wildebeasts and other animals from our room. They are out all day and being cooler in December will help the animals be more active.

He won't see lions or monkeys at the AKL. The animals on their savannah are all non-agressive and I think all vegetarian. Some rooms do seem to have better views than others, I'd suggest requesting a Sunset Rock view for the best chances at seeing animals. They are usually out in the morning and evening, but midday they are often in their barns for a couple of hours so the savannahs can be cleaned. The animal keepers have a lot of tricks they use to keep the animals pretty close to the building. :thumbsup2

No liions or monkeys but plenty of other animals. They will be out at various times during the day. You are not going to see a steady stream of animals passing your balcony 24/7. What is left up to the luck of the draw is what the animals want to do. As a Cast Member told us - the animals will be out when they want to be out.

Personally, I think the savanna view is worth it. You will see animals. When is totally up to them.

It wasn't until I personally visited AKL that I realized how awesome the savannah view is. Yeah, worth it.

We were told by a CM that the animals are fed throughout the day and night to keep them active on the savannahs. We saw for ourselves that they were fed around 9am, put in the barns around 11am and fed again around 9pm. We weren't at the resort much between 11am and 8 or 9pm so I can't speak to what is done between those hours. If your son likes action animals, he might be a little disappointed with the animals at AKL as they are mostly quiet grazers who, even when they do move, don't move too quickly.

Even if you opt for pool view or budget view (standard)- you will still get to see the animals. There are big balconies and several viewing spots (with live guides) to see the animals. The balconies have nice big carved wooden rocking chairs. Maybe not the best in rainy weather, and maybe not as cool as from your room window, but you can still spend time watching them.

Also, be sure to check out the resort activities. AKL has things going on for kids all day long - or at least they used to . the best is the nightly cmpfire story by an African storyteller. They also do coin rubbings, and have a nightly music hour for kids.

::yes:: Oh yes, Savannah view is very much worth it.
One of my all time favorite memories of the AKL was waking up in the wee hours and going out on the balcony. It was very foggy, but I could see giraffes moving silently through the fog! It was exquisite and surreal. :cloud9:

Thanks everyone for you replys... It savannah view will be at the top of our list!!!
