*Saturday Spotlight on Magic Kingdom*

Thank you for the welcome :cheer2:

We arrived on 3 July and a friend from New Zealand arrives on the 5 July. We have been to Disney in Paris and Los Angeles but not to Florida so really looking forward to it, especially my 14 year old daughter.

A bit concerned about the heat but have booked for the All Star Resort so not too far to get back for a lie down in the afternoons :sunny:

Hi, edinburghlass  and welcome to the DIS UK boards!

Glad you like the tips here, and I'm sure there'll be many more on the other topics covered before your trip. Check out the Saturday Spotlight thread 'stuck' at the top of the UK Trip Planning Board where we'll be accumulating all the threads every week - that way they'll all be in one place eventually, and easier for you to print out :)

When are you going in July? Have you been before? We're going on July 8th - our first trip in the summer months and I'm wondering how well we'll cope with the heat then!

Hi Hilary, I've done a July trip with my family - many years ago now - and I remember it being very very hot! Make use of the fountains and keep stocked up with water and a big hat :0) Drop by Kmart or Walmart before you go to Disney and buy some of those water spray bottles with the fans on - they're great and cost a couple of bucks - about 5 times less than the ones they sell in the park.

It will be very busy so plan time for siestas or a swim at your hotel and then head back to the parks in the evening when its cooler.

Enjoy your trip!

RJ

Thanks, RJ :) I'm sure we'll be fine really, I'm just a bit concerned that we'll find it soooooooo much hotter than our March / October trips that we won't enjoy it as much. On the other hand, I can think of worse places to be in July than Orlando! ;)

Check when you get in, for a certain fee, there are nights when you can stay at the park longer, after it closes. Wife and I have done Space Mountain over and over, as well as the Haunted Castle. Many more rides open those nights, just two of our favorites. Really worth checking into. :cool1:

As far as I know there are two ways to stay in the parks after normal operating hours:

Extra Magic Hour: This is free to all on-site guests. There are EMH in the morning and in the evening at alternate parks daily. Parks stay open around 3 hours after normal closing. You need to show you room key and get a wrist band to stay in the park.

Hard Ticket Events, MNSSHP, MVMCP, Night of Joy etc.
You need to purchase a ticket in advance for these events and numbers are limited. These nights do sell out. Again you need to show your special tickets and get a wrist band to stay in the park.

I've never heard of the facility to pay a fee to stay in the parks after closing.

They used to operate E-Ride nights at the MK on certain dates for onsite guests. I can't remember what the cost was, but the maximum number of tickets issued was 5000 which made for a much quieter MK than during MNSSHP and MVMCP. The downside was that quite a bit of the park was cordoned off (only certain rides operated). Since the EMH programme started, I'm pretty sure there haven't been any E-Ride nights.

What a great thread, there is so much on here that i didnt know! and i thought i knew pretty much everything on wdw:rolleyes1
i'm going to print this off and take it with me.:thumbsup2

Great information, this will be our 4th trip and most of this information I never even knew :rotfl: , even though I always think I'm soooooo prepared:lmao:

I've never heard of smiths wooden leg being there... is this from mary poppins... a man with a wooden leg called smith?? how exciting I will have to go and look for it!!!

As I said earlier in this thread I too think its great to find all these tips in one place. I printed them all out for our trip in 2005 and took them with us again in 2006 and tried to read up at night on the park we visited the next day.

I loved being able to find Tinkerbell in her drawer and flying from the Castle, riding up front on the monorail and especially the umbrella at MGM, had great fun dancing round in the rain

Well bumped. very useful info. thanks

is this a silly question but is there a

saturday spotlight for the rest of the parks?

I just went searching, bumped a thread with all the Saturday Spotlights only to find it's the very first sticky at the top of this Forum :rotfl2: Oh well the thought was there!

Just a word of caution - these tips were compiled two years ago, so there may be some that need updating :)
