We're going to be at Disney Nov. 24-Dec.3, I think. We've changed our dates a couple times already trying to find the best time to go. LOL

Would the Saturday after Thanksgiving be a horrible time to go to Universal Studios? I'm soooo new to US and have no clue what days are bad, etc. to go, especially with people being off work/school that weekend.

US crowds are (for the most part) on par with WDW crowds. If WDW will be crowded, you can expect the same at US.

I went to Islands of Adventure the Saturday after Thanksgiving this past November, expecting the crowds to be very bad. I was pleasantly surprised to find that was not the case.

I expected to do just a couple of highlights for two or three hours and then skedaddle home (we were passing by on our way home from Disney), and it was nice enough that we decided to stay until close about 6 hours later. While I wouldn't call it quiet, it was definitely doable--and we didn't have Express.

YMMV.

if you plan to spend a night on site, the express lines will be invaluable to you.

if you are planning to be a day guest in the parks, avoid the weekend if you can.
try to schedule a different day instead for the darkside.

Personally...I wouldn't go Thanksgiving weekend but then again I'm not a crowd person. Any holiday weekend is going to be busy and if you get to the parks before opening, you can do several attractions w/o much of a wait. If you can avoid that weekend...just to save yourselves some sanity...do it. If not...make the best of it and expect waits everywhere.
