Does anyone use Dish Network or some other service in order to have TV:happytv: and internet :surfweb: wherever you go? Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated!!

Wow, I guess I was sleepier than I realized when I posted this, as 'Satellite TV Internet and Television'

My son used to travel a lot and used the Dish when he set up and said he always had TV. The Sat Internet is quite expensive and limited bandwith and sometimes slow. You would be better off with Plugin card for your computer $ 59.99 thru all Att/ Verizon Etc. or how about the Iphone now you get Internet/Phone.

We have the dish that picks up signal as you travel. It came with the coach and was recently installed. The guy who we bought it from gave us the invoice for $2500 for the system. I have seen them in camping world too for around the same price. We really enjoy it and use a spare dish at FW in case we can't get signal because of the trees. I don't know what your budget is, but they are costly and unless it came with our coach, we wouldn't have one!

sounds like a great coach... you need to post pictures.

we used the ATT aircard at Disney last week, it worked ok.

If you want to do Sat. TV a bit more on the cheap, you can get a pipe from the hardware store, cement it into a 5 gallon bucket and then attach the Dish to the pipe. Pointing a single location dish is fairly simple once you level the pole. doing the 2 and 3 lnb systems are a little more difficult. I use this system for the Superbowl party at our church. It took me about an hour to set up the first time. After that, it has gone fairly quickly.

Here you go! The picture of the whole rv is before we replaced the AU with the Musket Mickey and painted the golf cart.

The satellite is the big white bump on the front on top of the coach.

When I'm at the Fort, I could care less about TV, but internet I need. I have a Verizon Card that work provides me and it gives great service.

I use dish network just make sure you can get a signal I get it in the 1600 loop. You also have to program it with the forts zip

We use Sprint broadband for the internet - at home and also in the MH. We have basic cable tv at home so we only have local channels in the MH. Maybe after we pay off the MH we can go back to Directv for both.:woohoo:

We had a TT and I just went on a whim to look at this RV in a car sales lot. The guy had two RV's he was desperate to get rid of because they were tying up his capital, so he offered us 36K off blue book with no down payment. How could I resist that? The payments are like a car payment and the insurance is cheaper than my car. He wouldn't take the TT in for trade, but we put it on consignment and it took about 5 mo to sell because of the glut of TT's on the market after the 3 storms that hit us during hurricane season.

To add my 2c to the satellite question...

It really depends on a combination of your campsite and your RV whether you'll get good satellite reception while in the Fort. There's a lot of tall pines out there, and if one of them happens to be in between your dish and the satellites (which are basically to the southwest from central FL), then you're not going to get reception.

We have a backup dish stowed in the RV that we use if our on-board dish has trouble seeing the satellite from our site. To give you an idea of how variable the reception is, our on-board dish couldn't get a signal when we were at the Fort last month. So I stuck our backup dish on top of the RV, about 10 feet away from the other dish, and found a spot where we could get a good signal. (Our backup dish sits on a little collapsible tripod that Winegard makes.) It was solid for the entire week we were there- I didn't have to go back up to adjust it after any of the random rain showers or anything.

So the point is: There's really no telling if you'll get satellite reception or not until you get into your site and try it out.

As a bonus for us, when we're at the Fort, we're still in range of our West Palm local channels, so we can get "the news from home" while we're there. :)

Edit: Hey, Gatordad- you going to the AU-UF game this year? We'll have to find each other there if you are. :)

We were there in April in the 500 loop and could not get a signal on our roof dome dish, too many trees to the south. We too have the Sprint card and it worked great at FW. If you are anywhere near a major city, or highway, the air cards will work, but not always at high speed. CG are upgrading to WiFi all the time because most of us have asked for it. The need for the high dollar Internet Dishes will probably not be necessary for most of us who travel east of the Mississippi. I think you may be able to justify the cost if you travel into more remote areas of the plains and the west.

You are lucky if you get regular antenna channels. We were there last weekend, and we got mostly static.

As far as I know now, I'm not going to any games this year, unless I get lucky.

I ordered an Emergency Kit from Directv for under $100 and it included a heavy duty tripod and single LDN dish and the necessary tools to point it. I have only used it once so far, but it was easy to set up with the signal meter that is built into the Directv receiver. You can't get internet with it of course, but I don't typically take a laptop with me on trips unless I have a specific need for it and know I'll have Wi-fi.

If I can get UF/AU tix, are you interested????

As long as I don't have to wear an Auburn hat. My little guy would love to go. He opened his Gators outfit first on Christmas, and wore it the rest of the day.
