I know this is not a disney question, but would make traveling in the car nicer and I'm hoping for other Dis'ners that might have a Satellite Radio.

Pro's/Con's vs. Sirus/XM. I would like to get one for my husband for father's day, as he travels for work, but I have no idea which one of the two is better.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've had XM for a year and I've been extremely happy with it. It makes road trips MUCH more pleasant and it has a great selection of channels. And they have Radio Disney!

You can check out the channel line up for XM at XMradio.com to see what they have - I'm not sure what your interests are, but XM has a substantial rock and electronica lineup, which keeps me happy. Late at night when driving, I find I like listening to the comedy channels, amazingly enough.

I don't know about Sirius's programming, but I do know that they have promised to pay substantially more than their current annual revenue to Howard Stern, so their business plan is totally reliant on Stern bringing them millions of listeners. If he doesn't, they aren't viable.

I've also heard people complain that their "lifetime" subscription plan turned out to only be for the lifetime of the radio, not of the subscriber, so read any agreements closely!

We have XM on 3 vehicles and my daughter, sister etc. We love it and have been extremely happy with It. Radion Disney too and now if you have a car set up on it you can get it free on your computer.

I have looked into this for us recently and my conclusions were that either one has the same risks and the prices are the same. So it just gets down to what programs the person likes better. Each one are getting exclusive contracts with different groups (pro sports, college sports, announcers...) so get the one that has more programming that he will listen to.

I have had XM radio for 3 years now and I love it!!!

I was just at Sam's Club the other day and they had a speciality pack. I think it was the car adapter, home adapter and radio for about $200.00. Which is a good price. it could have had more, but I was shopping for a bed for my ds 3.

Go for the Xm support Delphi!!!!! ( my Dh's company!)

Also for road trip XM is great. We drive across Canada all the time and it has great reception. Also the channels are awesome!

Jsut my opinion though.. :cool1:

I guess we are the minority here, but we have sirius. We haven't had it for long, but I like it so far. I posted this same question on a different board when we were trying to figure out which provider and the overwhelming response was sirius. Howard Stern can be heard on one of our local stations, but I never listen to it now so that was not one of our deciding factors. I prefer alternative music and was told that this has the better mix. We also receive radio disney which my nine year old loves. I love how they edit the songs and make them more appropriate. I worry about the weather a lot when we travel and like having all that information so easily accessible. My husband likes the comedy channel and I like the news/talk channels also. So far the only thing that I don't like it that it is a separate unit. When we bought our Sienna I was hoping that they would offer satellite as an option, but no such luck.

Good luck, I am sure you will be happy with either choice.

on a sidenote: How much does XM cost monthly?

If you can wait until late October or early November, both companies have promotions with free or severely discounted hardware with year commit.

Both cost $12.95/ month. Sirius allows 3 additional receivers for $6.99/month each. Not sure about XM on additional receivers.

I have Sirius and love it....a friend has XM and it is ok also. I think it is all in what you are used to.

My husband LOVES his XM...now...If I could figure out how to "delete" the NASCAR channel and replace it with radio disney....;)

xm rocks!!!!!!

I have had it for over 2 years now. It is great!!!

my favs are all the espn and sports channels.....including all the baseball games this season..whoo hooo, also there are 2 comdey channels one for adults the other for family, and a good mix of rock techno and urban music as well.

I never listen to my "normal" radio anymore

I have sirius and can't live without it. Check out the station listings to see what your husband will like. This is the best way to decide. Aside from programming ther's not much difference between the two.

I have had Sirius for 2 years and have no complaints. It truely depends on which program lineup is best for you.

Had XM for a year now, and can't imagine going without it! A plus to XM's service (not sure about sirius) is that you can also listen to XM online whenever you'd like :)

If your husband is a Howard Stern fan, then buy Sirius and he will be very touched and grateful (your husband, not Howard). Howard begins with Sirius in January.
