SAT Scores...I'm really confused!

My junior is looking at 4 schools, 3 of them just look at the CR/Math scores and one takes all three. Fortunately he did well so he won't have to test again.

If you want to scare yourself, take a look at the average SAT scores for Harvard.:scared1:

Yeah, I would have her retake the test...And also consider the ACT.

I scored a 2100 on the SAT, and I actually got lots of offers from different schools around the country, but I went with state school because I got awesome scholarships.

I assume there will be a summer testing, so I would have her sign back up.

I HATE SATs and ACTs with a passion.

they are absolutely the worst measure of how smart a kid is and how qualified a kid is for a school.

I'm glad that a lot of schools are taking the focus off of the scores and focusing more on the actual person applying (such as UC schools)

That being said....OP, because schools do take these scores seriously, she has to retake them and do much better.

Thank you so much for your responses. No wonder I was confused! ;) I wish the SAT study courses were offered in our area (we live in a very rural area), but we have purchased all of the study guides. She takes the ACT next Saturday - Hopefully that'll go well!

Thanks again, and I hope everyone has a very happy Easter! :goodvibes
You may also want to check with your local library. Ours provides access to a site called Learning Express Library to all library cardholders. Learning Express offers online courses and tests for both the SAT and ACT.

Good luck to your daughter!

At what age do teens take these tests? My DD is in 8th grade and nobody has spoken a word of this........

Junior year of high school. Although some 7th and 8th graders who score high on their standardized testing are offered the option of taking the SAT as a 7th/8th grader just for practice and "fun."

My DD is a Junior, so hopefully she'll have time to get her score up. She's so disappointed. She has a 3.8 GPA & is in the NHS, but this one test score is really bringing her down.

My daughter never "got" to a magical number on her SAT's. She did receive a 32 on her ACT's and her GPA throughout HS was between a 3.9 and 4.0. She also took an expensive course through Kaplan that did raise her scores up 200 points, but in the end, I am sure it was her ACT scores that worked for her. Don't let your daughter get too down. Each person tests differently. I would have her go to www.collegeboard.com and have her research colleges she may be interested in. They will break down what scores are required and if they accept the ACT's and or the SATs. Good Luck.
