Sat Nav excitement

As I am driving properly for the first time this trip I wanted to be organised. I know from driving with a friend a couple of years ago (and trying myself) that most things are fairly easy to find and the roads are fairly logical when you understand them.

However, I thought a Sat-Nav would be a good idea - I have a TomTom XL and had a look on their site and the USA map was in the sale - £20.97 (plus 8% Quidco so less £1.67 = £19.30). I am not sure if this was cheaper than hiring one out there - but I was so excited (yes I am sad) to realised I can pre-load all my destination!

Have done

Wilderness Lodge
Publix
Royal Pacific
Chilis
Boggy Creek

I don't know why but this laborious is bringing no end of excitement to my planning.

I'd be interested to know how useful people find the Sat Nav out there.

Many thanks

I'll be blunt ... I got lost once (only once) in WDW ... that was the only time I tried to use my car's built-in satnav ... I assumed that the darn thing knew what it was talking about ... after driving 10 miles more than I should, I decided to revert to driving 1.0, looked at the signs, and found my way.

If you ask me about the usefulness of a satnav in the Orlando area, as far as I'm concerned, it's as useful as fur boots at Typhoon Lagoon in the middle of the month of July.

:) :) :)

We got lots of use of our satnav on our May trip and found it invaluable. In previous trips we have relied on maps and always got slightly lost. It never took us done any back roads or took us on a bizarre route.

It was especially useful when trying to find the nearest specific shop, petrol station or restaurant using the search function. We definitely wouldn't do a trip without it again!

I am happy using the signs whilst on Disney property it was more for venturing out - just a security things I think really!

we always take our sat nav and find it very helpful, you've reminded me I need to sort ours out :thumbsup2

I downloaded the USA and Canada app for my iPhone so ill have it every time we go.

Used my Tomtom on the last two visits. Most of the roads are well signposted and it is easy to get about. The hotels in Disney have a very handy map which shows the nearby area in detail along with supermarket locations.
your US map should have the database of nearby attractions so you can easily navigate to the other parks or to shopping centers. The only time the US signs have let me down was over at Busch Gardens, I found the signs terrible but the Tomtom location was spot on. Whe you get to the US it might take a few mins extra for the gps to locate and lock on to the new satelites, some times 10 mins or so, just depends on how many it can see.

I've found it much cheaper than I imagine a divorce would be :rotfl2:

Totally agree, my husband and I only ever argue when one of us is driving and the other is navigating which ever way it falls.

We got lost quite a bit on our first trip using a map, we love ours, don't use it very often in the UK but when we do it is set up with the same American women which makes me chuckle.

We bought one from Walmart a few years ago & take it every time we go :thumbsup2

I think it's just nice to have the reassurance :)

We have Brian Blessed for our voice.. I swear we will get lost due to laughter

"you are going the WRONG WAY you FOOL!"

We downloaded the US maps onto our Nokia phones, wouldn't go without them, it's ok during the day but our friends got lost late at night and what should have taken them 15 mins to get back to the villa, took them over an hour.

wouldn't be without our satnav :)
