was anyone hit with it? It is strange. I know 10 families in my area Erie PA that was hit by it. What a bugger. I could not get on line kept messing up that internet connection. Had to spend 60.00 for new updates on my virus protection. Then I found out that it wouldn't remove the worm. I finally got on line to remove. This Stupid worm Took up my whole weekend!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else?

rvoto,

I'm from Erie too and I certainly don't want to get this nasty worm!!

I use Norton and so far have had good luck! I did notice last night when my DS was on the computer that he kept getting "the box" telling us that "critters" were trying to invade my computer. Norton did block everything so maybe I lucked out?

Any suggestions to keep it away from my computer?

Thanks and have a great day! Hopefully it will be a little bit warmer today!

There is a patch that you can down load from Msn. I think that is what helped me. I am not sure what really helped me but I think that was it. I know all the web sites to try though if anyone needs them there is www.symantec.com and www.mcafeehelp.com and http:/microsoft.com security/incident/sasser.asp good luck and I hope you all are worm free. Oh and where in erie do you live. I'm in Millcreek

Running the Windows update utility will patch your computer so that the worm can not infect it. Basically hackers find a hole in windows and then write a worm to exploit it.. keeping your computer patched means it won't be vulnerable.

You can run windows update by clicking on the start button and looking for it toward the top of the list. If it isn't there, use internet explorer and go to microsoft.com and click on Windows Update (in the left tool bar under Resources) Click on Scan for updates, when it is done click on Install. Some updates have to be installed seperately.. so when it is done, let it restart and go back to the windows update, let it scan again it will tell you if there is more to install or if you are all done. It will be time consuming if you have dial up-- but it is still very worth it.

It is really important to do this often -- atleast once a month, and definately if you hear/read anything about a new worm or virus, especially if you have broadband (DSL, cable modem). There is more at stake than just your computer -- infected computers are used in DoS attacks, they are used to infect other computers and are used to send spam.

You can also get a personal firewall that works with your anti-virus -- both norton and mcaffee have them. They will help give you some time to run the update when something does come out.

Best of Luck!

Anyway, my boss got it on his computer. I dont know how he didn't have norton or the windows update, but ya know, he's the boss, so I got to spend almost a whole day out of MY day to fix it on HIS computer. FUn, thanks boss!

Hope it wasn't too awful for ya!
