Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Jan. 30-Feb. 8, '09

Well I can walk today without limping, so it's a start!

But I'll take that Lapu Lapu anyway...

Sorry about the injury hon!!! I have done that myself, and it is NO FUN!!!! Try to take it easy----yeah, I know....you are a Mom, so therefore taking it easy is a remote luxury!!!! Get better soon!

Well I'm officially better with only that lingering knot in my lower back to contend with, but it's definitely something I can deal with! And I've got some pictures to upload and share of new dollar store and Target purchases from my big outing on Sunday... I was so thrilled I could walk! LOL

OOooh! I am excited to see your purchases. Glad to hear that you are feeling better!

Today is day 94 till our trip! I've got to get rid of the old calendar I'd printed out that says today would have been day 54! That killed me DED!

I was planning a huge Thanksgiving day meal here at the house as I always do, only to be asked to come to Tulsa to see my brother and his wife at their new house... so change of plans and we're driving 10 hours to Oklahoma next Wednesday afternoon to see the fam! I'm looking forward to seeing my nephews for sure. But my SIL isn't much of a cook... I tried not to pass out when, after I offered to bring pies or whatever she needed, she said we'd just either get what we needed pre made from the store or GO OUT TO DINNER for Thanksgiving... I've never done that! I've always spent two days cooking my tail off for the reward of a juicy brined Riesling basted turkey with cream cheese potatoes and sauteed green beans and pecan pie and pumpkin pie and...

I'm hyperventilating. But starting to become very interested in the adventure that this holiday is turning out to be! I LOVE a good adventure!

So I promised pictures of recent pictures, didn't I! It was Disney shop-a-palooza this weekend! I found a ton of little things for both Christmas and for taking to WDW in February (still so weird to be saying that).

I've had this one lone Belle figurine from a dollar store visit months ago, but with four kids that just wasn't going to cut it! Then I found these little guys which will completely cover my boy child and the babies!

Then I found an Aurora pez dispenser to match the Jasmine one I'd already found, one each for Tanya and Stasia!

An oh, joy! More ring pops! These are so cute, the kids will LOVE them!

And of course I had to get two more twisty glow sticks! These are too cool.

But these... THESE are going to be great for the night of the Pirate and Princess party! pirate:

Then over to Target where you never know what you'll find...

Like Princess wrapping paper!

Or Princess lollipop cases! Now we'll be able to save those lollipops from a sticky, messy existence when after being half used each of the girls decides they've had enough till later!

Then I found something I want to use for Christmas dinner: Candy cane shot glasses!

No, not for shots! They'll make great 'cups' for this mousse I want to try making and the kids will love the little edible containers!

More to come...

After unpacking our loot and storing it away till later, I realized how strange it was to be in the Christmas spirit and still have Thanksgiving to muddle through! That's when I decided... The heck with it! If losing my mother has taught me anything, it's that life is to be LIVED. I make my own rules and I can break 'em! So rather than waiting until after we got home from Tulsa to decorate for Christmas, I decided we would start NOW. The whole family was thrilled! (Next weekend is our anniversary and I did NOT want to be doing this during that time- it'll be so fun to have it all decorated before we leave and after we get back!)

So down came the boxes and the trees- we set up one 'mom' tree in the living room (which I get to decorate prettily and however I wish) and one 'kid' tree in the dining room upon which goes all the school and personal ornaments for the family. The kids decorate that one themselves and they love it!

While we were going through boxes, Kyle busts out laughing and tells me he found a little tin box with old Christmas candy in it and tells me to turn around- in his hand he's holding this:

The chocolates had fused together over the year in the attic and formed a Mickey head! :rotfl:

Tatiana helped me decorate my tree... this year it was a white, blue and silver theme (which will look more in sync with the room once I change the wall color again!):

My bird topper

And my martini glass ornament :thumbsup2

Last but certainly not least I had to share this insight into the mind of my child with you.

After Kyle finished decorating the kids' tree he called me into the room and showed me this, and asked me to guess what it was:

I said a bird's next, naturally. Apparently I was only half right though. He then went into a stand up comedy routine about it being my 'empty nest' until the time comes when I have one for real.

It was very genuine and sweet. I can't imagine why he thinks I'm looking forward to having an empty nest though... :rolleyes1

I love all of your Disney purchases and once again I make my bid to be adopted into your family. :rolleyes1

Way too funny that the chocolate fused to make a Mickey Head!! I spot Mickey Heads in my real life all the time, it's a sickness I think. :lmao:

I love your Christmas Trees, it's neat that you have the two different ones. :thumbsup2

Consider yourself adopted, LL! I can't stop buying things... I'm thinking that I'll end up making Tink gifts in the form of goody bags sometime before we leave so each day I just have to pull four out and leave them for the kids to find... but four bags a day times 9 days is a LOT of goody bags! That's my logic for continually shopping... :rotfl:

I STILL can't find those twisty glow sticks! And I covet them!

I found them at Dollar Tree, otherwise known as the REAL dollar store! (Where everything really IS a dollar, as opposed to the other dollar store we have here which is more like "everything STARTS at a dollar"...)

I still need to get some more; I want at LEAST enough for each stroller each night!

I love to go out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving....especially a really nice buffet.

I agree. I think my favorite Thanksgiving ever was when I went out to a nice resturaunt with my parents and brother. I meant to say that in my earlier reply.

I was at the blasted Dollar Tree on Sunday and they didn't have any. I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

Well you two are giving me hope then! I can be a bit used to my routine from time to time... but I really AM trying to look at this as an adventure!

These were with the other glow things, but some were hidden behind the regular straight glow necklaces, if that helps!

Love your trees sweet lady!!! It's getting to look a lot like Christmas around here too, so I will have to share some pics with you too!!! That is only fair, right???!!!

Love all the stuff for the goody bags!!!

I have never been to a restaurant on Thanksgiving, but I like your attitude about it---it's a new adventure!!!!

OMG---I just wrote a lie---I completely forgot about Thanksgiving last year!!! We were travelling down to WDW for our November 2007 trip!!! AND WE TRAVELLED ON THANKSGIVING DAY!!!! What is wrong with me?!?!?!?! We started driving down at 3am on that day---the roads were delightfully clear that day, Hmmm, wonder why?!?!?!?! We ate a Denny's for lunch, and I think we stopped at a Cracker Barrell for dinner--wasn't much open on that day. We were all on such a high because we were checking into Mickey's house by that evening!!! Can't believe I forgot about that!!!! Now, we did do our Thanksgiving feasts with both families the weekend before we left, so maybe that is why I forgot!!!

That is an awesomely beautiful white Christmas tree! :goodvibes

The kids love having two trees- they are constantly rearranging the ornaments on 'their' tree and trying to move their own ornaments to the front!

YES! I want to see your pictures for sure! I'm such a control freak and not knowing my SIL's plans for Thanksgiving day and such is traumatic to me! :rotfl:

-Your trees are beautiful!!!! Christmas spirit is in full swing in my house too,
but we haven't decorated yet. I finished shopping about a week ago.

-I found glow rings in the dollar store by my house. I've never seen those before. Grabbed the last 2 & haven't seen anymore.
