Saratoga

I went over to Saratoga to see for myself what all the "not to like" on the board was about. I will tell you that I think it is a beautiful resort and as previously posted, they are not finished with it yet. We went into a Grand Villas, Oh My!!! It was astounding!!!! I would love to take 12 people to it. I do not own there but if that is all that is available when I book I will sure take it. The new villas looked to me like they were going to have fireplaces. Anyone else see that? I know it's Flordia, but there are some cold days in the winter.

We own at SSR. Is it our favorite resort? No. Would we rather stay elsewhere? Absolutely. Would we sell it? Not a chance.

We love the Wilderness Lodge. When we add on points, we will add on there. It is our preferred resort.

We bought SSR points for a few reasons: 1. - We live in a state that does not allow selling or price quoting over the phone. When we called from home to speak with DVC, they couldnt talk to us due to those laws. Therefore, if we wanted to purchase we had to do it while in Florida. SSR was available, so thats what we bought. 2.- The contracted points last longer. 3.- We dont have children yet and we wanted our future childrens future vacations pre paid for.

So, in the end, even though we dont love SSR, we bought there and we stay there. It is too spread out for our liking, but we would rather be at a spread out resort in Florida than at home in Nebraska. So, it all works out in the end.

I read and lurked on these boards for about a year before I purchased. That was in the height of the SSR-basing, it seems. I rented at SSR before buying as well. However, I only rented there as it was the only place we could get a res at that time....I was planning on buying at BWV or BCV via resale.

Having read these boards, I was going to SSR thinking I would not like it. I went expecting to look for and notice all of the negatives I had read about. Then I got to SSR. Love at first sight! The rest, as they say, is ancient history!

As others have said, I think the number of resales is due to a numbers game...or rather, several...

--the current promo right now is going to slow down resales, certainly.
--there are more owners at SSR, therefore more resales
--many SSR owners are new DVC'ers, and new owners are more likely to finance (as opposed to many OKW owners who have been owners 10+ years and have long since paid off the intial buy-in). Owners who are financing are more likely to have to sell than those who own outright (due to not being able to make payments for any reason).
--I think that there are many "stripped" contracts out there from folks who bought with a discount, stripped the points, got a free AP, and then turned around and listed.

In any case....we love, love, love SSR! We have not stayed everywhere yet, though we certainly plan to. But if all we ever get is SSR, we'll still be in heaven!
