Just got back last Thursday from our first stay at Saratoga - my first trip to WDW. We checked in on Sunday, June 11, so we were there for 13 days. We had a one bedroom villa. Our party consisted of two adults and two teens, ages 13 and 17.

Resort:
Accommodations were great! We loved having the washer/dryer and there was plenty of space for the four of us to spread out. The room was clean and comfortable. We were in The Springs, room 4214. Very quiet, and a short walk to the pool, Carriage House, and the bus stop. We had breakfast one morning at The Artist’s Palette and dinner one evening at the Turf Club. Both meals were good and on par with other Disney restaurants.

Parks:
As I mentioned, this was my first trip to WDW. Last park I’d been to prior to this trip was Fiesta Texas in San Antonio back in 1993. Overall, I loved the parks. The main reason I hadn’t gone to WDW before was the price. However, having been to all four parks, I’d say the price of admission is reasonable. I loved the interactive attractions – Turtle Talk and Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor - and thought the PhilharMagic show was great. We actually saw that one twice. The grounds were amazing, most of the cast members very friendly. The kids don’t like water rides – sugar melts, you know ;) – so I missed out on those. I only had two complaints: 1. Some of the attractions are a bit dated. 2. I’d like to see more rides like the Rock ‘n Roller Rollercoaster or Expedition Everest. We watched “Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream” at Hollywood Studios and saw/heard Walt talk about keeping the parks “new”, so I was a bit puzzled that the rides haven’t been updated. The one that stands out the most is Carousel of Progress, which I know was one of Walt’s creations. I know some of you may hold that particular ride dear, so apologies for offending anyone! :flower3:

Food:
We had breakfast at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom and Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary, and lunch/dinner at Le Cellier in Epcot, the Garden Grill in Epcot, Ohanas in the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian Cafe, Whispering Canyon Café at the Wilderness Lodge, and Sci-Fi Dine-in Theatre in Hollywood Studios. Ohanas was our absolute favorite, and we will definitely be going back. The bread pudding was downright sinful! We were on the DDP, and we had plenty of food.

We took the BLT tour, and those rooms are beautiful! Sales pitch was very low pressure, so I’d recommend it for no other reason than to see the new resort and get chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick. :goodvibes We’re planning a return trip in late October without the kids, so we’ll hit some of the attractions we missed this trip, and dine at some different restaurants.

I'm glad you had a wonderful first visit! Saratoga Springs is beautiful and having the washer/dryer is heaven sent!!!

We were just at 'Ohana last month it was my favorite meal of the whole trip! We ate there in 2007 and I wasn't impressed. This time was it was fantastic!!!

You're going without your kids?! LUCKYYYYYY!

Very glad to hear your trip was great!
We try to go every 3-4 trip without the kids and it is a totally diffrent experience ENJOY...Shawnpirate:

Glad you enjoyed SSR. I hope you were able to visit DTD, as it is so close to your resort.

As for the thrill rides, I am greatful Disney doesn't have many hard rollercoasters, as I can't (read: don't want to) ride them (motion sick). Due to the make-up of the parks, I enjoy most everything and do my own thing while my DW and DD ride the coasters. This is probably why DHS isn't my favorite park. I wouldn't be opposed to more roller coasters, but I'd be bored if it turned into Knotts Berry Farm, Universal or Busch Gardens.

On that note when the family hits the two Frontierland Mountains, I go hang out at Frontierland and chat with the DVC kiosk people.

Yes, Grey, we went to DTD several times. The convenience is great!

No, I wouldn't want to see the parks become carbon copies of Universal or Knotts Berry, either. Disney can do far better than that! I'd just like to see the addition of some more "thrill" rides in addition to what they currently offer. If they don't it certainly won't stop me from going and enjoying! :)

I'm right there with you Grey.. I get motion sick and don't like the anxiety feeling when I get on a coaster. So I do quite well with what Disney offers. When I take friends and they want to ride the coasters, I'm quite content to people watch. I think Disney could add more coasters. They want to have something for everyone, but please, DON'T mess with my Carousel of Progress! That is one of my favs and a must do every trip, even if it is kind of cheesy :cool1:

Thanks for the trip report! We stayed in Congress Park in June and also had a great time. Next trip do try SSR's Turf Club Restaurant, it's by the pool. They have really good prime rib amongst other things and the servers are pleasant and quick.

As far as the Carousel of Progress, my family humours me by going there with me, I'm one of the ones that wants it to remain the same! At least it's a cool spot to sit in when it's really hot outside. I'm not even offended by the people who nap in there! :rotfl:

Thanks for making your first trip report. Glad to hear the whole family enjoyed. Have a great time at your first Food and Wine Festival at Epcot in October.

Ah! carousel of progress, my 'cooling off and have a rest' ride!

Sounds like SSR and WDW made a good first impression!!! BLT was great in so many ways when we stayed and we love SSR too!!!

Thanks for the trip reports, I enjoy hearing from first-timers.

Great report! I'm counting down the days to our 1st trip to SSR!!!!! December 18th can't get here fast enough!
