Hi can you help I booked room at SSR a year ago for my adult handicapped son and I, staying September 21 to October 9 2013. We specifically booked this resort because I could push my sons wheelchair to downtown Disney via the walkway, without the hassle to us and other users of using Disney transport.
From this month the path is closed, so is there any other way we can walk to DTD?
To be honest the only reason we stay SSR is the ease of getting to restaurants
At DTD.

SSR has a boat to take you to DTD. There is also a SSR boat that goes to Old Key West Resort. The OKW restaurant- Olivia's is very good.

The boat captain will put a metal ramp in place so the wheelchair can be used to board the boat.

You might get other suggestions if you post this on either the DVC boards or the Disney hotel boards. I don't know how to move it, but this board is for hotels other than Disney.

The walkway on the east side of SSR is closed. There is also a walkway on the west side of SSR which is still open. This would take you near House of Blues at DTD. :thumbsup2

There is also the disAbilities Board that might have suggestions, they are experts on how to navigate WDW with people in wheel chairs. Good luck!

This mode of transportation for people in wheelchairs (that can't leave the wheelchair) and scooters is never guaranteed. It's rare but there will be times when the water level is too high/low to make it safe.

so sorry - the other walking path is thru the golf course and gardens - so not a level or pathed way.

understand when I stay at SSR it is for the easy of getting back and forth to DD.

if you still go - when you check in - ask at the front desk - (also don't worry about using the buses) - there was a time when they would provide special transportation for this type of thing.

the best places to stay at with a wheelchair are Pop and OKW - now some others would disagree. but took mother in a wheelchair for years to WDW. OKW and Pop were the best for us. Hoping SSR will be for you.

only 2 wheelchairs (although the new one will allow 3) per bus. if you see others in wheelchair or scooters lining up in a special line - join them.

disney did away with the special line for hc - but the bus drivers still honor it - it makes it easy for them. because they like to put the wc on first.
