Hi all.
We are doing a Disney cruise on the 28th of Oct. and were hoping to stay at Wl which is sold out. Any ideas what Saratoga Springs is like? How far is it from MK? Also, can I walk to Downtown Disney?
Just curious!

you can definitely walk to DD.

this is a beautiful resort. Disney went first class here and it shows...

it is several miles from the MK.

but the bus transportation is fine to the parks.

Greetings, eh?

(Grew up in Metro Detroit watching CBC from Windsor ;) )

SSR is our home resort, and we like it just fine. A few things: it is a spread-out condo-style resort with multiple buildings, not a typical high-rise lobby/elevator/long-hallway hotel. There are two lighted walkways to DTD and currently there is no TS restaurant at SSR - it is under construction as we speak.

But the place is still quite new, and the landscaping is growing in nicely, so take a few minutes to walk around and enjoy the space.

Be well!

Thanks for all your replies. OKW is our home resort and we have only stayed there and BWV both of which we loved. We want to try out all resorts. Since we are travelling with 2 kids and 2 seniors - we always love to plan and have no surprises if you know what I mean.
Greetings Drtomorrow - nice name!
I am sure you watched Hockey Night in Canada - CBC! We Torontonians are upset that the Leafs did not make it through...
Anyway, thanks so much. I am thrilled that walking to downtown Disney is not out of the question since I love the World of Disney Store. I can spend hours there!

From what I can gather, request staying in the Congress Park area if you want to walk to World of Disney. The walkway is shortest there. Congress Park is the bit directly across the lake from DTD.

I plan on doing this in December. Springs area is closest to the theme pool and ferry boat, but I'm going for a view and quick walk to PI and Marketplace.

I ahve never stayed there, but have toured it and it was quite lovely, I thought. I will have no problem staying there.

Our family loved SSR when we stayed here in Jan. It is a very quiet, beautiful resort. We stayed in the Springs area and walked to both ends of DD. We did not have a car, so we relied on the bus system to get to the parks. The usual wait time for us was about 10-20 minutes for a bus and about another 10 minutes or so driving time.

DH & I loved it when we stayed last Dec. We were in the Paddocks. Right next to the quiet pool. I really like the quiet pool area. We walked from DTD 3 times while we were there. I had a hard time deciding not to stay there in Aug.

Congress Park is a great location for walking to DTD, short walk to main pool, even shorter walk to "quiet" pool, view of the river, and close to bus stop. Have a great time!

We'll be at SSR in July for a 7 night stay. I didn't request a specific area. Are there good points about all three areas or is it a good idea to make a request? I'd just as soon not make a request, but I don't want to make a huge mistake and be disappointed.

Thanks!

Congress Park is close to DD.

Spring is close to the main pool / food court/ action...

the other one (who I can't remember) is between them .... and behind Springs?

I just recently came back from WDW, and stayed at the BWV. I own at SSR but have not yet stayed there. I did go for a visit of the grounds and the model homes, and I really like them. I found that the furnishings are a bit more sophisticated than at the BWV. I believe, although I cannot confirm, that the lighting inside each unit is brighter than at BWV. I had a chance to stroll on the path along the lake opposite DD, and it was definitely pleasant. I felt so relaxed there, even though DD was so close.

The answer to your question is a simple NO. SSR is DVC's latest boondoggle. A theme based on a town that the vast majority of the country has never heard of. It is a big condo resort that even falls short of that standard.

Room service- NOPE

Poolside dining: NOPE

Bell carts to help with groceries and luggage: NOPE

Sit down restaurant: NOPE

So big you need to drive to get to the public areas: YUP

Theme pool way to small for a resort this size: YUP

Must bus or drive to all of the theme parks: YUP

Sparce landscaping: YUP

Palm trees or other Florda landscape: NOPE

Variety of food offered at AP: NOPE

Smallest rooms to date for a DVC property: YUP G

Guess what, if you like what you've heard, you to can own a piece of this "magic" for a price pushing $100/pp.

Enjoy the magic that is SSR. pirate:

p.s. I own some land in Florida in case you are interested. Just pm if you are. :lmao:

Thanks,

Tell it like it is Johnny

We stayed at SSR last May and we loved it. It's an absolutely beautiful resort. Like the other posters have said, if you think you would be going to DTD often, I would request to be in Congress Park. We were in The Springs which is close to the main pool, food court, store. It really is a question as to what you think you would be doing the most. You are pretty far from MK but we had no problems with the bus there at all.
