I recently have been upgraded to ssr from asmu!!! Which building would you suggest staying at? I want a water view, which building should i request? I think the springs building looks nice, how is it? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

The Springs building is very nice and close to the main areas of the resort. Be aware though that DVC resorts do not handle requests the same as other resorts.

Mostly they fill rooms as you check in. You can request an area but please do not be disappointed if you do not get it.

If you want water view I would make that my only request.

We stayed in Congress Park, and loved it! our view was of DD and it only took us about 10 min. to walk over to the Marketplace (MMM... Ghiradelli's) it was a little bit of a walk up to Artists Pallet but not to bad, and the grounds are so pretty, we really diddnt even mind the walk up there. :thumbsup2

I will be checking in on 8/26. I have to transfer over from ASMU so assume I will get there early in the morning-around 8 I hope. Maybe that will help with my request. I have never transferred resorts. Does anyone know if they offer a shuttle for this or is it easier to take a cab?? I'm flying in so I won't have a car. Also, I read that check in time is 4:00. I assume they will just hold my luggage and we can check in and go to a park.

DH and I have stayed here twice. The resort is huge and location can make a bit of a difference. We enjoyed our stay the first time when we were in Congress Park facing Downtown Disney. The quiet pool was directly out our patio door and was awesome! The second time, we had a late check-in and none of our room requests had even been noted on the reservation. The only thing available was the farthest section of the Carousel buildings. Our balcony overlooked one of the guardhouse entrances. Everything was a bit of a hike to walk to. The grounds were lovely, so at least I got a lot of nice pictures! It was also the quietest stay we've ever had:) A map of the resort might help you decide where you want to put in a request for. Congrats on the upgrade and have fun!

If you are moving between resorts, let the Front Desk at the first resort know that you need baggage assistance to move to the other resort. They will come to your room, collect your luggage and move it. You will not get your luggage until after 3pm or later, so plan accordingly.

After you get a room at the new resort and its after 3pm you can call Bell Services there for luggage delivery.

They you take busses to a park or downtown Disney and bus to the new resort. We have found all this very time consuming and a hassle to do.

Personally due to the fact Disney is bad about luggage delays and lost luggage I would spend the money for a taxi, it will be less than $20 and worth it.

Once at the new resort if your room is not ready you can store it there. But at least then you know it is actually at the resort

We stayed in the Springs and had a wonderful view! We really liked the Springs b/c we were right across the street from the lobby, main pool and both restaurants. The walk to Downtown Disney was only about 10-15 minutes too!

You might want to check out the DVC board as well!

Do you remember what your building # was and what type of view did you have? When we asked the cm about putting Springs on our reservation he asked what building # we wanted but had no clue so i told him i would call back later.

First of all, the best area to stay really depends on who you are traveling with. With younger children, I would suggest the Springs -it's closest to the main pool(which is zero entry and great for younger children), and the dining facilities. I will say that keep in mind that the main pool gets very crowded with young children -my kids(13 & 8) enjoyed the quiet pools best since they basically had the pool to themselves. If you are going with older children or without kids, then I suggest staying in Congress Park which should give you pretty good odds of a DTD view. As indicated earlier, you can request an area but there is no guarantee at all. I suggest arriving early AM to check in, the CM will/should show you a map of available rooms in the area you prefer. They are usually very good about recommending what has the best view and should help you make a decision. It's a great resort, you should be happy no matter where you end up.

I believe our room # was 4241 (we were in the Grand Villa). Our room overlooked the huge pond/fountain and if you looked out the windows - to the right was the pool/check-in/restaurants.

I agree w/GAN about it really depends on who you are traveling with. There was 10 of us (me, DH, DS, DD, MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL, niece & SIL). We had planned to go swimming and wanted to be near the main pool for the kids (we didn't get to go - boohoo) and my inlaws both have really bad knees and wanted to be near the restaurants/shop so that we wouldn't have to pile into the car to go. It was literally a hop, skip & jump from it all. It was really nice to being where we were b/c at night when we got home from the parks, our room was right there next to the bus stop! Carrying 3 sleeping kids, strollers & all the bags we needed would have gotten really heavy if we had been further!

Hope you have a great time and get the room you want!!

We were also upgraded to SSR. I was thinking about asking for the Springs too. Any other opinions?

We stayed in Congress Park last year (facing the water) and loved the location. It was the building closest to the main buildings/pool/etc, so not only was it on the path to DTD, but it was close to food, etc. The buildings at SSR don't have simple numbers...instead each building is labelled by a block of rooms. Our building in Congress Park was the one with rooms 2501-2836.

The following three buildings in the Springs would also be great in terms of convenience (see posts above): Rooms 3101-3436; 3501-3836; and 4101-4436.

Good luck.

I was also wondering if you think it makes a difference what floor you stay on. Is it better to get an upper floor for a better view or is 1st floor just as good??

Because the area is so "open" and the buildings aren't too tall, I don't think room floor matters all that much as it does at some other Disney resorts. We loved being on the first floor (and having a patio) in a Congress Park building facing the water...and our view was teriffic!

The buildings are not numbered (only the rooms) so request by location, Springs, Congress Park, Paddocks, Carousel and Grandstand.

We were on the 2nd & 3rd floor (stayed in a Grand Villa and they are 2 stories) and I'm not sure if the floor would matter all that much. There aren't any big trees, just the new ones and they are aren't that tall or that leafy.

Another great location is the newer Grandstand section.

It has its own pool and waterplay area, is also very close to the Carriage House/restaurant area, is the first stop for pickup and dropoff to the parks (important when you're going at a crowded time), and has some lovely views (some golf course and westside DTD views; we saw the La Nouba "tent" from our villa :) ).

BTW, I think the new pool bar area there is now open; I'm not sure if they serve food (it wasn't open yet when we were there in early May).

Have a great time! SSR is a wonderful resort. :thumbsup2
