DW and I did our first ever solo trip last March at SSR. We stayed in the Congress Park section which was super, but our greatest suprise was eating at the Turf Club. The prime rib was outstanding!!!! .It was one of our best meals at WDW.

We just stayed in the Congress Park section/DTD view room. A nice easy walk to DTD but a bit long to the main area pool when the temp is 90+ and humid. Ugh! We only used the bus for the Magic Kingdom and it was a pleasure.(7:15 A.M. for the EMH) We always rent a car anyway so the other parks it was easier to drive. From Congress Park we drove to the boat launch to DTD just to at least try it. Again ,if we walked by the time we got to the dock we would have been soaked in sweat!
I noticed the Grandstand area has a kiddie water playground and is an easy walk to the main area. We may try that area next time. Good LUck. We also checked out the Tree House Villas. I was a little disappointed. Seems more like a campground to me. To each his own.

How long is the walk to DTD from Congress Park? How long is the boat ride to DTD?

we requested the grandstand for our trip in a couple weeks-is there a certain section (room) that we should add to that request. We have 2 children (5 and 4) so we want easiest. Is there elevators or no elevators (like port orleans)?

All the buildings have elevators.
Almost all the rooms have views of the golf course, although some do overlook ponds. You could ask to be near the pool as it would be nicer for the kids.

nice quiet pool in that area and near downtown disney

So about how long minutes wise of a walk to the main area from Congress Park?

There is no quiet pool in the Carousel section. For this reason alone, we never request this area. If you have youngsters that will be using the pool, either the Springs section or the Grandstand section would probably be best. The evening movies are shown at the main pool in the Springs section.

We have stayed in Congress Park, The Springs, The Paddocks and the Grandstand (twice) this trip we will be in a THV out of the ones we have stayed in so far I would say The Grandstand building that is located next to the pool and closest to the check-in (main lobby) area is our favorite location. We will see what happens with the Treehouse this trip!? BTW....I have never had any bus problems at SSR from any of the locations and we NEVER have a car while staying there.
