Sarasota area/Lido Beach Hotels

We're looking to spend a few nites in April before our WDW time..
Looking for suggestions on hotels in walking distance to the beach and the Aramand(sp) Circle area ..Also any suggestions on venues in Sarasota that may have concerts, shows etc..Anyone know good restaurants in the area??

Forget Sarasota .... I'd rather talk about the Vineyard. I've never been there, though Nantucket is our favorite vacation spot. Hope to get there one of these years.

Seriously though, I love the Lido beach area though I've only stayed a couple of times and don't really have any good suggestions.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn (across the street from the beach) on business once. Had to really work at it to get a beachside room (only managed to get moved when something in the bathroom sprung a leak and flooded the room) and even then the balcony wasn't really good for sitting on. I can't remember what Spring month I was there, but I remember all the hotel rates being just ridiculous. You may really get stung looking this late.

Another time my family rented a hotel farther down, it was a Best Western type, but I don't even recall the chain. That has probably been 15 years.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the responses you get.

You will pay through the nose if you can even find a room on the beach - which there aren't many near the beach to begin with. We have been looking and it's hard to find rooms within driving distance and the ones we find are ridicously priced for being that far away from the beach - and the traffic can be a bear. We are staying out off of I-75 for a night (and paying too much).
