It has been reported in this country that Sarah Palin has had a new wardrobe purchased for her so she does not wear the same outfit twice, this was paid for by the RNC.

Does she need new clothes for every event when I guess the guys use suites frequently?

If you are a party member do you agree that the party should pay.

While I believe that anybody spending $150K on clothes is outrageous, I think that as far as scandals go, this is a non-issue. If the Republican campaign is footing the bill, isn't it from donations from supporters? It's not tax dollars so they can spend it however they wish. If buying clothes for Sarah Palin and her family is considered "advertising", so what? Their supporters freely gave the money as a donation and it now belongs to the Republican party.

Didn't we go through about 20 pages on this yesterday?

This was not meant as a scandal piece just asking question, also I was working all yesterday and was not on the boards and I did not see the thread when I came on today so I apologise but if you did not want the thread to be there why not ignore not made a spiky comment with a large icon.

I don't think most people see it as a scandal, so much as it just seems a tad hypocritical that the gal that "wants to sit down at the kitchen table and talk to REAL Americans about their problems" just droped $150k at Saks. Meanwhile, there's a photo of "elitist" Obama from a few months ago out there that shows him with his very scuffed up shoes propped on a desk.

Cuz' that's how I roll, Andy. :flower3:

Let's face it: if the Republican Party did not buy Governor Palin clothes, then she would be appearing at functions without any clothes on at all!

Oh my, my heart just skipped a beat.

Where's that "Desperate Times" image when you need it?

I'm sure that would get in a lot of the young men vote! :thumbsup2

That's next week strategy if they stay behind in the polls....

I don't see it as hypocritcal, since it wasn't her $150K she was spending. If she spent that much of her own money, and then cried poor, that would be hypocritical.

She didn't drop it, people contributed to the RNC and they used the money, you know, kind of like Obama spends $600 million. Apparently you need that much to win a campaign.. He should probably "share that wealth" around.....

I think we're over reacting. Even Joe Six Pack knows that someone running for President should look the part, no matter how much "like me" they are.

The Party should pay for their candidate's (and his/her family's) clothing during the campaign. It's all part of their image, if he/she looks good he/she will "sell better".

I guess it comes down to the issue of elected officials accepting gifts. Palin is the CEO of Alaska and something like this then allows discovery of what other "gifts" she has accepted since taking office. When you are busy portraying yourself as a common, everyday type person, spending $150k on clothes, makeovers, hair care, make-up for your immediate family doesn't fit the persona that you are trying to project. Since the RNC has now released a statement that ALL of the clothes will be auctioned for or donated to charity, how will the younger Palin children feel when those slick, new clothes are taken away? What does Palin wear when she is doing her "Day Job?" This just projects more elitism and distance from the rest of us.

yeah, this is a non-issue, IMO. It is amusing, because it definitely contradicts the 'regular American' hockey mom image that they've been cultivating. If I were a donor, I'd probably be ticked, but as someone watching from the other side, its just pure entertainment. If John McCain wants to throw away some of his limited funds on dressing her up, so be it. Just another example of poor decision-making.:confused3

And if they were to win.....wouldn't she need to keep those clothes? What would she wear in office if they were all given to charity?

And in answer to the OP....
I think a few women's suits would have been fine, not a new one for each event. She can accessorize and make them look different, just like a man does with a suit.

It's more a difference between men and women. Men can go on a business trip for three days wearing one suit and packing a couple of different shirts and ties. Women don't get so lucky. Our suits are generally not made of switchable pieces like that (at least mine weren't, nor were those of my female colleagues.)

Yeah, $150k is a lot for clothes, though! Of course, if she was shopping at Penney's I can only imagine the SNL skit....
