SAP+ ?

Isn’t the general consensus that the extra money you pay for Aulani dues somewhat undermines their value as SAP? Have never run the numbers myself so, to be fair, have not taken into account whatever variables you might have considered. And I guess it also depends upon how long you plan on keeping the points. But it seems like the longer you use Aulani points primarily as SAP, the less of a good deal they are.
Traditional dues maybe, subsidized are much less making them a contender for SAP+ imo

For any contracts sold for Aulani before July 6th 2011, they are subsidized meaning Disney pays for 25% of the dues for that contract compared to a regular Aulani contract. When resold, these contracts maintain their subsidized status and the new owner only pays 75% of the standard dues.
What was the reason for the subsidy?

Excellent and simple explanation. :)

I’m amazed Disney doesn’t rofr every single sub contract that comes across their desk. lol
I dont think this matters. I could be wrong, but unlike the OKW situation. I dont think Disney can undo sub contracts. Those points always have to stay sub. It also may be the reason that they dont rofr many sub contracts, as splitting them or melding them with other points is too tough.

I believe it would be tied to the contract, not the exact points. When the contract would be sold back to Disney the contract would be dissolved and the points would go back into the pool for the unit they came from. I believe this would get rid of the subsidized status and when resold those points would be under a new contract not requiring them to be subsidized again. Like if they ROFRd a fixed week, they wouldn't be required to resell those points as another fixed week.

They are having a hard enough time selling Aulani as is, I just think they don't want any more points for it lol

That was my thinking as well, otherwise Disney would have to sell subsidized contracts, & that just sounds weird. lol

My understanding is that DVC used to do buy back a lot of the Vero subsidized contracts and to my knowledge no new purchases were subsidized.

So either they just keep all the subsidized points for themselves or the subsidy belongs to the contract and not to the points.

From a dues perspective, I could see DVC ROFRing up AUL-S like crazy at some future date to get more maintenance fees.

No one actually knows how many Aulani points are left or how close it is to selling out it is. I remember at the end of 2022 someone did an analysis and said it was 70% sold, but who knows.

So I have a problem... I bought AUL-S for SAP, now that Ive been to Aulani I think I want them not even as SAP+ but as home resort booking points. My VGC has to remain VGC only, my VDH has to be only for VDH or maybe RIV, all thats left is my CCV and it's only 100 points. Does this mean I have to buy more SAP+ points.. seems so.

I don’t want to twist your arm, but that may be the only reasonable answer. ;)

On a more serious note, your VDH points are definitely usable at WDW (& without ToT), so if you have VDH & CCV you might not really need more points… unless you do? In that case what are you thinking? BLT, more CCV, some SSR? Maybe some RIV or BWV/BCV?

I had a similar question. Unless you need more points overall, why not use VDH @ WDW? Is it bc they are direct (and more expensive)?

Using AUL-S the way they are supposed to be used…. to stay at Aulani!

Yeah I think it's because they are my only unrestricted points, I feel like I would only want to use them at VDH or RIV.

I was thinking BLT due to the low dues and it also being a good home resort. Actually a very cheap non sub AUL came on the market and I was crunching the numbers on it, I i think a BLT at at $115 would make more financial sense, but it wont give me more 11 month point power at Aulani.

We have always been fine in studios, but this trip being in a studio 3 nights then moving to a 1 bedroom for 2 nights really made the size and amenities difference stand out, so we will probably now want 1 and 2 beds moving forward for stays longer than 2 nights.

I would recommend doubling up on Aulani for the larger room sizes and views.

These are from last week.

Amazing.

We toured the Grand Villa. It's too point heavy for us but maybe once we can swing it once. I think if could have a 2 bed in a similar location I would be very happy.

We did a 2BD OV in the 50 block (closest to the center of the V in Ewa tower). These all had a long balcony and we are going to always request these rooms going forward.

I will warn you about the Ocean Front Grand Villas…. nothing will give you cheap resale point addonitis more… especially if you can get points for $90 or less…

I feel like i could add on some SSR points (just because), but honestly I'm not so sure that BLT/CCV aren't just the better choice (for me), not only for SAP+, but cost-wise too, SSR isn't that much cheaper to purchase, & the dues are lower.
