Santa Fe v's Cheyenne

I stayed at both Cheyenne and Santa Fe but it was back in 2002 and 2003 so dunno what they're like now with Santa Fe being cars themed as you mentioned but I preferred Cheyenne's theming to Santa Fe back then. The Western town for the hotel rooms just looked cool to me! I don't really remember much else about it though

After several stays at Cheyenne and the other hotels I wasn't sure about returning to Santa Fe (last visit 2004 and wasn't impressed) but with a 5 year old Cars mad nephew celebrating his birthday amongst the group, it wasn't up for discussion.

Needless to say he loved the little Cars touches, he wouldn't have appreciated the Cheyenne theming in the same way.

From my point of view, rooms, location, shuttle buses were no different to that at Cheyenne. Most of the time we walked back and for the park and time/distance was comparable to various rooms at Cheyenne.

The only downside to Santa Fe was breakfast time, out stay was in January this year and during the bitterly cold weather, if we weren't at breakfast by 7.00, by 7.30 people were queuing down the side of the building, suffice to say that out of our 6 mornings we only had breakfast there 3 times, I can't imagine what the queues are like high season. At Cheyenne we've never failed to walk straight into the breakfast room be it 7.30 8.30 or 9.30 and that would be the only reason why I would choose Cheyenne over SF.

Apart of course, from the superior theming of Cheyenne, you can't deny that Cheyenne has possibly the best theming of any of the hotels although Lightning McQueen fans won't agree.

As a Santa Fe fan - I don't think anyone can disagree that the Cheyenne's external theme is probably the best in the whole of the resort :) (apart from the DLH) .

Were we just unlucky with breakfasts ?
I couldn't understand why Santa Fe would struggle so much in comparison to Cheyenne, it didn't seem that any of the breakfast room was closed off, food and drinks were all well stocked on the days we got in but the queues and the fact that they were outside the building were incredible and not an option at -16 degrees.

If I do take my nephew next year, we will be back at Cheyenne, for the sleeping arrangements more than anything else, but I'm going to have to sell it to Jack as Woody's Cowboy hotel, otherwise it's just not going to compare with SF for him.;)

I don't know about the breakfast situation really Jill, we will only go for breakfast at the Santa Fe before 7.30am, or we just won't bother. I've seen the queues outside the reception building there as we've passed by in the morning. But having said that, I always assumed it was a similar situation at the Cheyenne. The only time we stayed there we had one early breakfast before 7.30am, then breakfast in the park.

Breakfast queue wise, we usually go for an early slot at both hotels to make sure we don't end up in the huge queues!.

We had to stand in the Santa Fe huge queue last summer once (breakfast in the park for the other days) but the slot was a late one.

We've had to queue a fair while at the Cheyenne too, but I don't think their queue was outside!.

Both hotels are the same to me, except for the themes. But the creaking floors in the Cheyenne creep me out :| I know its all part of the theming but still..

But then again I don't like the Santa Fe if we don't have a close block to reception.

So I guess it just depends if you're a scaredy like me :').

Bus wise, Cheyenne is better (easier to get a seat), but the Santa Fe have a queueing system now too which makes it a bit more manageable.

I stay at one, one trip and the other the next trip so I can't really help say which is better. Although, from a scenery and/or photography point of view i'd say Cheyenne, just because of this photo that I took - http://elstoleno.deviantart.com/gallery/26246761?offset=48#/d2wibox (too big to insert as a image nicely I think)
