Sanibel Island

I don't know if this the right forum for this question, but does anyone know how long it takes to get to Sanibel Island from Disney. Thank you.

Hi,

We've driven from WDW to Sanibel many times, it's about 3.5 to 4 hours without stops, depedning on traffic. After you get to the Sanibel causeway you'll be driving a lot slower, so it may take you 20 minutes or so from the causeway to your destination. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for the response. Have you ever stayed on Sanibel Island? We were thinking driving over from Disney or of flying in to the nearest airport to Sanibel Island and spending a couple of nights there then heading Disney.

I agree, it's a wonderful place AFTER Disney. We did this way back in 2000 and it was so nice and peaceful after running the rat race in Orlando. Looking forward to going there again.

How funny, I just got back from a weekend conference at Disney followed by a week at Captiva (the island right next to Sanibel). I agree with the drive times posted. Don't be fooled by the mileage, it gets really, really slow close to Sanibel. I'd give it an hour to get from the closest airport (Ft Myers).

The place we stayed on Captiva is about 5 miles from the end of Sanibel, but it would take us 45 minutes to get from our house to the Causeway. I loved the week we spent there, but I'd definitely plan for a low key week because you may get sick of the drive!

Really 3.5 - 4, I think a good 4 to 4.5.... We drive every year from Pine Island to Disney and we do the speed limit to a few beyond and never 3.5 hours. Pine Island I thought was before Sanibel because we have driven to it from Pine many times. And from Pine island it takes about 40 minutes to get to Sanibel. Maybe you guys have a quicker route, but we got directions from Florida residents who drive that route at least 2 x a year....
