Sanford and best hotel

Hi all, booked my flight from NY to Orlando and flyinig into Sanford! Wondering what is best hotel the day before and way to get to Port Canveral the next day? TIA

Let me just start this post by saying how much I dislike flying into Sanford - that being said, we had a disastrous flight into there and got in very very late - we had to scramble to find a room because we couldn't get our rental car because the airport and rental counters were closed at that point. We found a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Sanford which was located in a stretch with a lot of other hotels and was a bit of a drive from the airport - no taxis at that time of night so a very generous sole from our flight brought us there in their personal car - long story here, but it was very nice, new and had the typical breakfast which I love because I love Eggo Waffles.

Anyways, that's long way of telling you that as long as you get in while the airport is still open and rental counters are open, you will have no problem and the hotels are about a 10 minute drive from the airport. There are all the typical budget hotels in the area.

I realized that after my long convoluted way of telling you about a decent hotel in Sanford I had forgotten to tell you how to get to Canaveral. I actually would check with the hotel and see what they say - there are several ways to go and while it may look good on the map I don't know whether it would be the best way - so either touch base with AAA or check with the hotel - or someone more experienced with this than me will come along shortly.
