Hi there,

We are flying with Thomson from Newcastle next year into Sanford having previously only flown to MCO. I was wondering if someone could provide me with a walkthrough of the procedures for arrivals at the airport and collecting our car from Alamo. I realise it is a much smaller airport than MCO but just like to be prepared so that I know what I am doing when I get off the plane.

Thank you

Richard

Once off the plane it will take you into customs hall, there is about 15 desks so not too much of a problem, can get through quite quick if no other planes have landed at the same time, as you go through customs you turn right into the baggage hall, there are three baggage carousels, once you have your baggage you walk 50 feet to the entrance through security who might want to check your baggage. Literally as you walk out of the baggage hall you cross the road and turn left into the building that deals with car hire. It is a lovely airport and very quick to get through and I prefer it to MCO. :thumbsup2

Can I jump on this one? lol Instead of a car, I have transfers (might still add car but not sure). Where would I go to catch them?

I second Tony's link, we used the MCO version and I found it really useful especially as a first time driver in the US :) Now if only there was a similar one for picking up a car in Manhattan and driving out of NYC  (driving from there to Boston this year)
I've never driven from Sanford, always had transfers but bombhead444 is spot on with getting to car hire companies :thumbsup2
Gemma: Transfers can vary but ours were both with MyTravel packages and were by American Coach. There was a little building not far from the car hire companies for those taking transfers and we just gave them our info, our names were ticked off on a list and we were shown to the coach pickup area. They tended to have a coach for each area (Disney, I-drive etc) so all of us International Drive people were on the same one and they just stopped at the various hotels to let us off :)

Transfers on buses will be given directions from the TA's desk atthe Welcome area just across the zebra crossing take the left hand doorway each company has their own desk. They will direct you to your bus and driver once everyone is on board they will take you to your hotel but it can take a while so be aware of that, it once took us almost three hours to get to to our hotel as we had to drop off others in the neighbourhood first and the roads are different to UK roads. Make sure you visit the restrooms before you board the bus.

How far is Sanford from the Disney resorts ?

Does anyone have a link for transfer companies operatong from there to Disney ?

Thanks:goodvibes

We've always caught a pre-booked bus from Sanford booked through our TA. It has taken around an hour to an hour and a half on average the one off almost 3 hour longer time was an exception the the norm. We've stayed in the LBV area when we are not staying on site so allow extra if you will be in Kissimmee and a little less for I-Drive.

We booked towncars for our last two vistits & it worked out cheaper for the 3 of us than the first years coach transfers.

I also prefer Sanford to MCO - has been quicker through, and more relaxed as a consequence...

For added reference the Alamo desk is to the right when you cross over the road to the car rental desks, it's actually a fair walk as you walk round to the right then past all the bus stops etc and the alamo office is at the back of the short stay car park, should only take 2-3 mins to get there but if it's raining you will get wet :(
