California Trip Report
Day 1
Sunday, January 18. We woke up about 5:30am eager to get going. Gary was worried
about the snow storm, so we left a little earlier than planned....6:20am for an 8:40am
flight. All went well at the aiport. De-icing took a while so we were 45 minutes
behind....landing at noon in LA. I was dreading 5.5 hours on a plane, but it really wasnt
bad at all. The tv and movie selection has improved wildly since our last flights on Air
Canada. Heading home is only 4.5 hours due to head winds or magickal airplane
fairies....something like that. Flying over the Rockies was GORGEOUS!
LAX is HUGE! We had to take a shuttle to the car rental place. All went well there they
even added me as a second driver for free....apparently, Im quite charming to Mexican
men. Emily picked a pretty red van. We easily drove to the hotel [gps]....Embassy Suite
South....excellent hotel! Our room is a two room suite, so LOTS of space! We hit the
road by about 2pm as we were all hungry and wanted to try The Cheesecake Factory at
The Grove for lunch. WOW! IT WAS GREAT! The Grove is an awesome outdoor
shopping complex next to the historical Farmers Market. I read that its a good place to
go star gazing and Emily REALLY wanted to see celebrities. As we waited for our
table outside the Cheesecake Factory, we spotted David Krumhotz, he is an actor on the
tv show NUMB3RS and was the head elf in the Santa Clause. Emily and Gary enjoy
NUMB3RS so I walked up to the actor, told him that Emily likes his show and asked if I
could take a picture of him and Emily. He was lovely, shook her hand, introduced
himself and asked her name. It was a fun first celebrities meeting! Next I saw an actor
from the 70s at the Farmers Market, but I forget his name....Barry something, I think
he mostly directs these days. As we left The Grove, we saw Jennifer Love Hewitt having
lunch on a patio with friends. She is prettier in person than on tv.
After our late lunch and window shopping we headed to the beach to watch the sun set
over the ocean. It was beautiful. The waves are HUGE and the kids loved running in the
water.
Back to the hotel for a Managers Reception....I like California wine! Then a dip in the
hot tub!
We made plans for tomorrow; Hollywood Tour Bus, Graumanns Chinese Theater,
Kodak Theater, HAUNTED Roosevelt Hotel, Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive, back to the
beach!
We took LOTS of pictures of the Hollywood Sign already! This is a surreal place. We
grew up knowing the street names, land marks and attractions!
Until the next report....
